Is it the converter?

When i put it into drive there is a noticeable knocking that isnt coming from the engine, i can feel it catch hard and it a knock when playing with it in 1st. My best guess would be the converter but im not sure. Opinions? Answers?

Sounds like a broken/cracked flex plate IMO.

It just happens. Keep in mind this component does just what its called... it flex's thus called a flex plate. After repeated use sooner or later it breaks from flexing!

Mine did this, 1st time it was a cracked flexplate, 2nd time it was a loose converter bolt. Use blue locktite...

Mine didnt break and cause me problems but it started to crack above all tc bolt holes through the teeth.
Its tough to see but theres a crack there.

thanks for the input guys, i guess ill start with the u joint before tearing anything apart. i really dont need this thing grenading. lol

Thats right. You dont. Do a search and you will come across a thread where theres some pretty nasty pics of fp going through the exhaust and such. You dont want that to be your legs.

Could be a converter bolt backing out. I have seen this happen before also and it cause a knocking noise.

You only need to drop the starter motor to check the three converter bolts. This can give you a good view of the flexplate too.
The wimpy-looking stock flexplate scares me; I installed the sturdy and SFI-rated TCI one.
