I am dropping my trans to install my SS3600, I removed 9 bellhousing bolts, all the electrical stuff plus the cooler lines. I got the 3 flywheel bolts. I cant get to come from away from the Engine...I think it probably just rusty guild pins but I did not want to pry on it with out making sure. Thanks

 

Did you take the driveshaft out ? Haha. j/k
It'll take some effort but you have to slide it off the pins.

 

Grab the tail an ld shake the **** out of it. Thats the easiest way.

 

ratchet strap the tail shaft to the rear end & snug up the ratchet......make sure you have a jack or something under the trans just incase it comes off in a hurry.

then push the tail with one of your feet useing your leg muscles......ratchet a little more if needed.

or use a chain hoist with the same method above.

haha drive shaft, rear-end plus a couple other things are all out.

I took the trans out of my bros camaro last summer and it came off super easy to this, I just don't want to screw anything up.

 

9 bell housing bolts? there should be 8..

3 converter bolts. Assuming everything else is disconnected, driveshaft, crossmember, harness, tq arm, etc.

there is two dowel pins on each side of the trans, they like to seize and just be stubburn!!!

Make sure the car is secured!! safety stands etc...

I use a decent sized prybar and work on the starter side lightly prying motor vs trans while wiggling the tail, sometimes raising the jack and lowering also helps wiggle it off the pins....

put some antiseize on the pins when you re-install...the 4l60e will come out again, make life easier for next time

 

3 across the top, 2 on each side, plus 2 on the bottom = 9 idk

I am thinking that the pins are seized, just making sure though

 

there is one on the top center, then one at the 11 o'clock position, LS motors shouldn't have a bolt hole for the top right ( 1 o'clock position) the transmission does have it, but the motor shouldn't unless someone drilled/tapped it...it would be a first for and I have pulled alot of GM 4l60e's from ls motors

When you get it out take a pick, I'd like to know if a ls ever had a 9th bolt

 

I had to use alot of muscle and a couple pry bars. I tried to be as careful as possible but after a while of fighting with it I decided there was no more room for careful lol. That was the toughest part of the whole job. It was a PITA.

 

ok my brother stared on it before I got home from work and he told me there was one, he probably just did not remember there being one.

 

everything else on a trans removal is easy compared to this lol

Those dowels can be extremely stubborn.

Since you also removed the three flexplate to torque converter bolts, be careful that the converter doesn't drop (e.g. on your head) when the trans finally pulls free.
