Default 4l80e swap wiring questions

I have read that you can simply buy a wire harness adapter from speartek or pcm4less for the swap into an f-body. However, you don't have full control over when the converter unlocks, and also need to run a tune setup for a 4l80e.

I read that someone figured out how to wire them up using the 4l60e tune to control the 4l80e, and it also allows you to control when the converter unlocks. But i haven't been able to find the details. Anyone have a write up, or directions for this?

Yes,
I do but it's proprietary information that one of my guys developed.

You can PM him if you want the info. He goes by "slow67" here.

I think I want to leave the stock wire harness alone, in case i remove the 4l80e in the future. Thus going with an adapter harness will be easier. Which is the better way to go speartech or pcm4less? there is a $50 difference is one easier to install?

Not sure if this part of the proprietary information, but if the connectors are the same on the 4l60e and 4l80e then why is a segment swap necessary to control the 4l80e?

I mean if i ever take everything off the car and go back to stock a few years down the road. I'm not going to remember what I did to the stock wire harness to modify it for the 4l80e. So putting an adapter or wire harness extension is much easier.

Then if the wire harness adapter changes the wiring for the 4l80e around correctly, i don't see why i couldn't control the tranny with my current 4l60e tune.

Yes the adapter harness is easiest and cheapest. and easy to just put back. BUT you have to get it retuned!! there are differences in the two tunes....

Current Performance did my tune and harness, since they already own the license for my tune, they quoted me only 25 to change the tune 4L60E to 4L80E

I can make the segment swap myself with efilive. That isn't the problem.

What I'm wondering is why can't the 4l60e tune control the 4l80e when using the aftermarket wire harness/adapter?

I would contact slow67. His method can be easily reversed. We are talking about 2 or 3 wires.

From my understanding the two transmissions operate in a completely different manner ... deeming the segment swap necessary, but I'm not a trans guy so I don't know what's different about how they work. I used slow67's write up on repinning the harness and did the segment swap and haven't had any issues so far. Here's the link if you decide to go that route. https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...60e-trans.html

Contact Slow67. His method is best from what I've researched.
