how to change the trans plug on top of the 4l60e
how to change the trans plug on top of the 4l60e I just was wanting to know if anyone had done this before.
The transmission harness that runs from the pcm to the top of the 4l60e is very tight in there no room.I need to change out the end of that harness with a replacement plug sold on several sites.I have been under the car and can get my hand to take off the connector but I can not see how the hell you have any room to connect the new plug on the harness.Any tips??

Are you saying that you can disconnect the plug, but cannot then pull the harness away from the trans and tunnel?
I don't have a Gen-4 and therefore don't know if there is a clip holding the harness to the tunnel.

Perhaps your harness got pinched between the trans and the tunnel. Either that or there is a factory clip holding it. Unless the harness is mostly routed within the car and drops out above the trans.'
There are dozens of Gen-4 owners here who have removed their trans. Do any of you know the answer here?Thanks. (I know what I don't know.)

My only experience is on my '81 Camaro with LS2 and 4L60E. Obviously I have an aftermarket harness. My trans sub-harness breaks off from the main harness in the engine compartment and I have a good 3ft of loose sub-harness. When I drop my trans, the connector is dragging on the ground. Here is a picture of how loose my trans harness is:

Verdad Gallardo My only experience is on my '81 Camaro with LS2 and 4L60E. Obviously I have an aftermarket harness. My trans sub-harness breaks off from the main harness in the engine compartment and I have a good 3ft of loose sub-harness. When I drop my trans, the connector is dragging on the ground.

Ours was/is super loose... probably a good 4-6 inches of extra harness (98 car). Trace the harness back to the engine bay and find out where yours is clipped or hung up
I think you will find that the tranny plug is on a sub-harness as the other guy mentioned. There are two other plugs on the same harness, a VSS plug that plugs in on the rear tailshaft on the passenger side and also I believe a portion that runs over the top of the trans and feeds the rear oxygen sensor that is downstream in the y-pipe. I think you will need to unplug the other connectors in order to pull the sub-harness down to obtain the slack that you need.
I just pulled my 4L60E in my 98 SS yesterday and that's what I saw. Hope this helps you some. I can try to get a picture later today if that's not too late for you.
