Which shift kit?
Note that it includes optional internal parts (high RPM springs) to use if the trans is being rebuilt and you plan on shifts above 5500 rpm.
The Sonnax HD 2-3 shift valve recommended is by thunderstruck507 is HIGHLY recommended as it reduces load on your sprag and lets you drag in [D3].
Note that the shift kit requires removing the valve body and replacing springs in it. If that is more than you are comfortable with, just install the Sonnax 4060E-LB1 boost valve ($25) which only requires dropping the pan and using a pair of snap ring pliers.
Some of the trans builders here don't recommend installing a shift kit into a high mileage trans like yours. I think it comes from problems where they install a shift kit for a customer, the trans blows up (would have anyway) and the customer then blames the builder. Personally I would install the shift kit, but also plan on buying a new separator plate (Transgo Universal for $25), Torlon ***** ($10), new accumulator pistons ($10) and a reseal kit ($30) for those pistons, the servo, etc.
You might also consider the Sonnax Performance Pack (shift kit) which includes nice pinless accumulator pistons, Torlon *****, the Servo release check valve and other goodies. It is about $125:

Hope that helps you decide which way to go.

With a 2000 trans you will want a new sun shell and likely a new reverse drum; do pick a kit with those, or add them in.
