Default Yank PT4400 people come in!! Need your help!

So I picked up a stall last weekend. The kid thought it was a RevMax 3600 for a 4l60e ls1, however it turned out to be a Yank PT4400. (kid had no clue what he had ) Since the price was an absolute steal I decided to buy it anyways and would decided later what to do with it. I have been thinking of installing it but I'm afraid it would be too much for my bolt-on 3.23 gear set up. (DD until snow hits)

So here is my questions, do you guys think this would be "too loose" around town with the 3.23 gears? If so, do you think I am better off:

a) spend the money ($275) to have Yank restalled it to a ~3600?
or
b) try and trade it with someone for a Yank SS3600?

Lastly, I read on a thread somewhere that this stall with stock internals will be more like a PT4000, is this true??

This is my first experience with a stall and would like to do everything correct once. (who doesn't haha)

Thanks so much in advance guys

You could always just put it in and see. Its not to hard to swap converters. I imagine it'll be pretty loose though but should be fun when you smash the gas.

Great thread! I've seen a couple vids of them on youtube but most of them are with 3.73 or cammed. Anyone else have this converter (or any 4400) behind stock internal and 3.23 as a DD? What should I set the lock up at? Would setting it at 30mph help?

I have a 4000 converter with 2.73's so I'm sure it's not too far off from a 4400 and 3.23's. It's not too bad, honestly I feel like I could go looser if there would be gains to be had. 2500 or so leaving a light to keep up with traffic, 3000 and I'm usually leaving them. 3250-3500 merging onto the freeway. RPMs drop down to 4900-5000 on shifts.

I got used to it within a week. My first drive with it, it felt crazy as hell to be honest. I would press on the gas and keep having to give it more gas to accelerate as much as I wanted to, but now it's second nature. I say go for it, throw in the PT4400 and don't look back. It will perform like abeast, and hoenstly my gas mileage isn't too bad after the stall.

Hmm...I may just say screw it and install it. Yank confirmed that behind a stock cam/head ls1 the PT4400 will be more like a PT4000, since they are advertised based on a H/C ls1. If its too loose, it would still be cheaper to find a used 10 bolt with 3.73 then it would be to have it restalled.

Again, the car is a light daily driver and I am usually driving between 25-45 mph, what would you recommend setting the lock up at? Would 30mph be too low?

I have my trans set to lock up at 38-40mph. FTI 3800 with 3.73 gears. much lower then 35mph and the its too much load on the engine.

Don't set it to lock up at 30 in 4th. You may not know but if you shift the trans yourself, or just leave it in D3, it will lock third slightly over 30 mph. I've been doing this a lot.

I've noticed that lockup in third cruising is worth about 300-400 rpm compared to unlocked in 4th at comparable speeds.
