Default 4l60e dragging/Slip?

Hey everyone,

I recently replaced my 4l60e in my 98 Trans Am due it slipping and it being high miles and overheating. I replaced it with a used low miles one and upgraded to a Revmax 4k Stall. Along with the stall, I have a LQ9 with longtubes, ory and full exhaust.

When I am at a dead stop in D, 1st gear feels like its dragging and does not want to move. If I take my foot off of the brakes the car does not move. It takes 4k+ rpm for it to get to even 5-8 MPH. Once its in to 2nd gear and beyond it behaves at it sholuld.
If I put the car in Manual 1st gear, I don't have this problem and the car moves as it should.

Another thing, the car does not react well at WOT. When I'm driving normal the tranny is fine. At WOT the car will make all the noise and rpm but it will not drive as it once was when it was stock with no stall. It does not throw me back in the seat like it use to. If I were to drive it at the track i would probably rune 15's or 16's in the quarter mile. No joke.

Thanks in Advance. I have access to Hp Tuners if need be.

Your dragging when taking off from a dead stop sounds like the low roller clutch is not holding. When pulling the shifter down to low gear it also applies the low/reverse clutches and will back up the low roller clutch. As for the car does not react well at WOT what gear are you in at WOT? I don’t know anything about Revmax converters it may just be a very loose converter.

Maybe someone who has used one can chime in.

Do you have a bigger trans cooler?
Does the new 60e have a shift kit?
How much power are you making?
Do you have a tune?

Stock tune. No shift kit, decent sized B&M trans cooler. I've been logging some Temps and they stay pretty low, around 210-217.

I can go WOT at any gear and speed and it will react the same. Once I get to about 4K and beyond it'll struggle

I was thinking that maybe the stall is too big for my setup?
I have a Tick SNS Stage 3 I'm about to put in my LQ9. Maybe it'll react better to that?

Thats a good size cam, id wait to see about the trans after you install that and get a tune. So definitely report back on the trans after its all complete. Also if you haven't id get 3:73 gears at least. Maybe 3:90, 4:10 gears what ever you and your tuner/builder decide on.

The cam recommendations for a stall is 3600 to 4000. You have a 4000 stall, so based on my set up i used a 3:73 gear. Yours however id go closer to a 3:90 maybe a 4:10 to try and line everything up with the 4000 stall and the cam power rpms. The gears and cam may help your stall depending on if it is too big, however someone mentioned it might be to loose. Then again it could be something else entirely. So thats why i suggested to wait after the cam gets installed and the tune is finished. Hope this helps.

Anyone else have an idea what it could be? Am i way off on my thinking? Please correct me if so.

If the car behaves differently when starting in [D1] versus [OD] then you have a serious trans problem, and bbond105's diagnosis is likely correctly. The trans might also be slipping in other situations.

I have a Yank SS3600 and my car will accelerate from a stop "briskly" to 60+ mph without ever exceeding 2500 rpm by giving just a little throttle. I know a Revmax 4000 might be loser, but it sounds like you have trans problems.

Yea, good info everyone. It's really odd and annoying. I can get around town putting it in first and switching to "D", but it gets annoying after a while. At first, I thought it was a solenoid, but then I realised I had no codes.
I'm leaning towards major tranny issues as well lol.
I'll try to get a video of what its doing tomorrow.

Im gonna go 3.73 in the next couple of months, but I want to hammer all of these tranny issues first.
