4L60e 3-4 Shift Time Any Help?
I've been racing my buddy in a '98 Camaro Z/28 M6 and it seems like we're neck and neck between 2-3 but when I'm getting ready to go into 3rd he's already pulling heavy on me. I stall up my car to about 1500 RPM (stock converter) and ease off then I floor it. My gear ratio is 2:73 gears and I don't understand why it takes so long to shift from 3-4? His car is stock completely except a SLP lid. I don't have an intake at all. I've noticed that 3-4 has cost several races but a friend told me from a dig to start into 3rd and at 4500 RPM Shift into OD. Don't know if racing in 3rd will be better than OD. Any thoughts and opinions are welcomed, '99 Trans Am A4 whining rear end and 2:73 gear ratio
Well you buddy has better gears than you (3:42 vs your 2:73) so he will leave off the line faster. You should just put the trans in 3rd and leave it for racing. How far are you running or to what speed?
stop racing, put a trans cooler and fan in it, or say goodbye 4L60

In stock form the PCM has torque management to reduce power during shifts; the stock separator plate in the trans has a relatively small 3rd apply (2-3 shift) hole to make a gentle shift during the reduced power. Together it gives a very slow and gentle shift.
As mentioned, your 2.73 is causing you to lose ground.
Unless your trans has very specific mods such as the Sonnax HD 2-3 shift valve, keep the shifter in [OD] (and not [D3]) to reduce wear on the 3/4 clutch during the 2-3 shift.
