a4 overfilled?

Default a4 overfilled?

i just finished putting a built trans in my car with yank 3600,

converter had a quart of fluid in it
Trans i know was bone dry, lifting and moving it around there was no fluid

i added 8 quarts.....

first picture is when its cold "yes i know" but the next few pictures is when its warmed up and gears cycled through...

I'm assuming its over filled?

If trans is in an f-body, go back and check it after it sits for an hour or so. It’s very hard to get a good reading on the stick right after adding fluid.

Ah sorry, yes it's an fbody. 4l60E.
I added the fluid yesterday let it sit over night. Checked it to just see what it looked like cold. Then let it sit till operating temp and checked it in park. Got the same readings..... :/

Last time I did this to my old 99 I added like 10 or so and it was good. I must be rusty after 5 years of not having an fbody.

Now i know why my shifter was getting stuck. It would pop to reverse fast and get stuck trying to put it in neutral.

If that dip stick reading was with the engine running, then yeah, it is overfull.

well the trans must of had some fluid in it then, if 8 Quarts over did it.

How many quarts does a yank hold?

im glad i didn't go nuts on it for a test run around the block...

well my buddy has a machine we will suck out the fluid so i don't need to make a huge mess... also that shifter cable is broken right ? and I'm not losing my mind?

The flat style trans dipsticks are crap.

You could easily be wicking fluid from the side of the fill tube causing that high reading. Tell tale sign would be very high fluid level on one side of the dipstick and much lower on the other side.

Take for example, 4l80 dipsticks, 91-96 has an S-shaped bend at the end that keeps the important portion of the dipstick off the wall. 97 up is flat. Also note, the much higher full level on 91-96. This is the correct level for performance applications (case to pan interface or 1/4" above). 97 up "full" level per GM leads to fluid starvation at hard acceleration and burned up 1-2 clutch pack.

Be very careful when determining trans fill level.

Haha ya already ordered one from ac delco. Might as well get a trans temp gauge and route through there as well
