This is something Ive been wondering about for quite some time now. Its my impression that high stalled A4 cars are slower from a roll than a stock stalled A4. This is because of converter slip on the top end, right? I know people gain MPH in the 1/4 over a stock stall, but thats just because they lower their 60' with ultimatly raises their MPH in the end, but that doesnt mean they're faster from a roll does it? Im just asking this because the video in the multimedia section with an A4 ls1 verses an SRT4 from a roll and a couple people said putting a higher stall would help him....sure maybe from a stop, but they were racing from a roll. I always thought high stalled cars lost top end compared to a tighter stock converter. someone help me out

Your impression couldn't be an further from the truth. A PT4200 equipped A4 will give even M6 cars fits in a highway race and will make a complete joke of a stock stalled A4 car.

Think about slamming the peddle only to find that you're going just a little fast to hit 2nd gear. Duh....you're now racing while bogging from the bottom of 3rd gear with no power to be found. Solution? A 4000 RPM stall converter. Now in the same situation you'll still take 3rd gear but your RPMs will be WAAAAAAAAAAAAY higher putting you right in the meat of the powerband.

Converter slippage from what i understand is to jump an a4 car to a higher RPM point then with the stock tc. Thus giving you greatly improved performance. You may lose a bit of power on the top end but since you are at higher RPMs compared to the stock tc it helps tremendously.

The guys with stock A4s and stock programming are
hurting from a roll because the kickdown points are
insane from the factory.
As long as you're making more power from being in
the fat part of the powerband, than you lose to
slippage, it's a better situation than stock.

Also when your car shifts from say 2-3 gear at WOT the rpm will not drop nearly as much as with the stock converter, this is your shift extension. With my SSF3500 it only drops down to like 4900 rpm when going from 2 to third gear at WOT, and it pulls like a ****.
