Default 4l85 question

I have a 97 and newer 4l85, it has the long gear range selector coming from inside the trans that the shift lever connects to. Can it be changed to the short one without removing the valve body. Any help would will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Use Sonnax 38511-03K https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sox-38511-03k

You "CAN" bend down the separator plate & remove the nail to get the shift shaft out, Then bend it back to hold the nail in place......I would never do that to my or a customers transmission, I would remove the Valve Body.

Then I won't do it to mine either.
The long selector is butting right against my drivers side header and the linkage has no room to move into park because of the 02 bung.

LOL......Are you open to pulling the unit down a little to do some hydraulic modifications? That is IF this is a STOCK GM 4L85E.

The only reason I bring this up is......A well tuned LSA & no torque management WILL slowly kill the Direct Frictions.

If you do not want to pull the unit to internally dual feed the directs, PM me...... I can sell you a Trans Go 4L80E HD2 separator plate dirt cheap that will dual feed the directs without removing the unit.

Is this plate modded by you to do this or the HD 2 plate has it done from them?

It's a triple layered plate that dual feeds the directs that comes in a 4L80E HD2 shift kit, I had a last minute build & used the intermediate snap ring & direct return springs out of a HD2 kit because it was to only thing I could get local.

I have the long shifter shaft also.
The plate that goes on the shaft for the Quicksilver shifter is real close to the collector flange but it just clears!
This is on a SBC tho..

Mine is going in a 69 Camaro the lever for the shifter is hitting the 02 bung. If I could get a lever that matched the B&M holes but bent in another 3/4" it would work like it is. don't know anybody to do the swap or cut a new lever with a bigger bend.

Check out the link at the bottom

Can you move the bung so it clears? They are cheap.

The headers are already coated, and it would still be too close..
