Default 4L60E shift issues

Good Morning,

I apologize in advance for this question about my sons 1995 Chevy Silverado 5.7L TRUCK...

Long story shortened, my son brought home his 1995 Silverado 4L60E with NO 3rd or 4th gears. He pulled the tranny and I rebuilt it the first week it was home, but never got around to putting it back in and it sat in the shop for almost 2 years. I put the tranny back in last week and drove it a couple of time around the block. Here is what I need help with please!

1- reverse no issues
2- will not go forward in 4
3- will not go forward in 3
4- goes forward in 2
5- goes forward in 1
6- all gears seem to work fine when starting off in 1 or 2 and manually shifting

Now-
I checked the fuses and found no issues, read the codes with paperclip and have a code 42 (reset)... probably from resetting the timing? Replacing the 1-2 and 3-4 solenoids tonight... will let you know. BUT- I am now worried about the sprag being installed upside down. HOW DO I CHECK THIS WITHOUT REMOVAL?

I appreciate your help. Hoping its a shift solenoid!

It's in backwards. Just pull the unit.

So are you saying that there is no way to verify this without pulling it?

You've already verified it.
You tried all the gears and listed when it moves.
The reason it moves in 1 and 2 shifter position is because the overrun clutches are applied and take over the role of the sprag.

It's not a solenoid issue.

One last note about this before I pull it out tonight...

I just drove this again and in 4th have some movement but rpms go way up ALSO when starting out in 3rd, some movement but rpms go way up and finally, it will shift from 3rd down to second.

I appreciate your input! Does this movement in 4th and 3rd change things away from the sprag?

I was in a hurry one time and installed the sprag backwards and it would bind when it shifted into 2nd if I recall correctly or 3rd I can't remember for sure which one it was. But I do remember it binding up for sure. I'm pretty sure it was 2nd because it would smoke the band every time it would shift. It does sound like a sprag issue though.

Is the sprag wiped?
They can be in the right direction and not hold at all.
Post pictures if you can

Bummer... looks like the 3-4 clutch pack clearance is about 0.135 100% now assuming that this is the issue?

The 3-4 clearance would not cause a no movement in od or d3 I would check the low roller. You do however need to fix 3-4 clearance.
Seeing its a truck it would have second start in manual second which does not use the low roller and of course the low/rev clutch set would be on and holding in manual 1 .
