Recently installed an fti 3800 hard hit and had the 3/16”ish of clearance between the converter and flexplate like others have posted earlier in this thread, I had thought about a couple washers between the converter and flexplate but were worried about them breaking the bolts so pulled it out to be flush with the flywheels and used the bolts with no washers, is this what I should’ve done or should I push it back in and use a washer?

You should slide the converter OUT of the transmission an 1/8" to 3/16" to the flexplate for proper clearances. It sounds like that is exactly what you did so you should be good.
