Default 4L60e

So after loitering on the transmission threads for awhile tonight I find myself still needing some advice or opinions. I've got an 03 GMC 1500 2wd with a 6.0 Lq4 and 4L60E, I'm fixing to boost it for towing my camper and just a little fun in general. Keeping the boost to around 8psi, I've already put a huge cooler on the trans and have the Sonax 2nd and 4th super hold servos in it, shifts like a dream. I'll be pulling about 6200lbs and at 70 mph its turning around 2200 with the 3.73 gears. Should I program it to keep the converter unlocked in 4th while I'm pulling or let it eat?? I know that heat buildup is a problem with the 60 but I think I have that addressed. Right now I'm towing in 3rd most of the time running 2900 to 3k at 70 and that sux. Opinions??

That doesn't suck
That's fine...for the trans anyway.
Log your mileage on 25 miles of straight flat road. I'm betting the mileage you see in 3rd isn't much worse (if at all) than in 4th

Locked up in 3rd would be the best way to tow in my opinion.
If your turbo setup can allow you to tow in 4th and not be hunting for gears all the time...then leave it locked up in 4th and it could be ok...but if it starts doing 4-3-4-3-4-3-4-3-4-3-4-3 then just leave it in 3

It will almost pull the camper now in 4th on flat ground and maybe some rolling hills without hunting for the gears ,so I'm sure that adding 100hp or so to it will pull it in 4th. Perhaps I should drop the gear to a 4.11, I think that would put me at 2500 in 4th locked up. I agree though that 2900 isnt bad but on short flat interstate trips where I can use 4th I do notice a pretty significant mileage increase.

-Big Cooler
-Sonnax Super Hold 4th servo
Those are 2 things that are really on your side.

I'd add some proper tuning to make tcc control on/off type and leave some torque management in the tune.
If the lockup is tuned to be on/off, and it doesn't hunt for gears. I'd say you'll be just fine

I think I can command it to lock in 4th and stay locked until the brakes are hit or it downshifts, didnt think about that.

When I say on/off I mean eliminate the PWM style lockup strategy.
The factory calibration will purposly have 30ish-60ish rpm of converter slip the whole time you're going down the road. Eliminate that nonsense

Gotcha , yeah I think my tuner did that already, I still think I'll have it, if I can, locked up in 4th constantly. I had that done to my old 87 Suburban with a 700R through the valve body and it worked out well, even got better fuel mileage

When you boost it, leave TM turned on. It’ll live longer.

Great advice from @MaroonMonsterLS1.
