2WD to 4WD conversion 4l80e

Default 2WD to 4WD conversion 4l80e

I bought a lightly used 2wd Jakes stage 3 4l80e years ago and never put it to use. I finally have a use, but I need it 4wd. I ordered the parts for the conversion. Am I crazy to think I can do this myself? After watching youtube videos, it doesn't seem that bad. Hoping I dont have to deal with endplay stuff if i put it back together the way it was. D1 brake as well if that changes anything. Was watching a21bravo videos if that means anything to anybody.

If the 2wd shaft is full spline...you can get away with not tearing it down, but getting creative with a sawzall or cutoff wheel on your favorite angle grinder.
Then just plugging the lube orifice in the rear.

That is 1000% NOT what I recommend, I just thought it was funny to note because I have seen one that had exactly done...come through my shop.
I scolded the customer and charged him the $35 or whatever it was to just put a proper 4wd output shaft in it. LOL

I have seen a good number of units with a cut output-shaft as well...

I just keep shaking my head NO! ...and point at the door to exit!
Sometimes they ask why and what I am doing... I do not answer, and just keep repeating NO! ...and start driving them towards the exit.
I have lost all of my patients for this kind of crap!

It’s not that bad of a job. I would double check end play since you are changing the output shaft. I never touched a trans before in my life. Thanks to all the trans guys that post on here and a couple of other forums I was able to couple rebuild my trans. Maroonmonster was one of those guys that I can’t thank enough for helping me with mine. I think if you watch some YouTube video only to get familiar with parts and maybe how the go back together and read some build threads you can change it no problem.

I just went thrue the same thin.But I went from 4 to 2 wl drive.i just took off 4 wl adapter and put the 2 wl cover on it the shaft is a little shorter but works great.
