Default Temp Sensor ideal location, 4L65e

My trans temp gauge (speed hut) is installed the pressure port, i think (above the pan, driver side). Anyway, my question is will the temp read higher since this is more "working temp" than say in the pan where its more like "resting temp". If so, how much higher could it read in the pressure port. My gage reads around 150/170 driving around town/freeway, but has approached the 200 degree mark at times while laying into it.

Not having any issues with the trans. Just would like to know if the temp is lower than appears and/or should i bother to relocate the sensor?

there is already a temp sensor in the pan from the factory.
Not sure why anybody adds another sensor to these...especially in the pressure port

200 degrees is fine.

Ideal sensor location for generic use is indeed in the pan. Relocate if you need to.

There is no sensor in the pan already. Only a drain plug that I installed.

There is a temp sensor located in the manifold pressure switch bolted to the valve body. This sensor can be read through the OBD2 diagnostic port.

Yes...there is
it is part of the manifold pressure switch
you can read it via OBD2 data
You can also elect to tap into the sensor wires and run them to a gauge if the resistance values match up. There are some digital gauges that will allow for the range to be specified and you can find the sensor data from GM pretty easily

This is a "crate" transmission purchased from GM along with the connect and cruise kit.Would the OBD2 port even have a terminal at the diagnostics port? If not...
Can I access this sensor by removing the pan?

connect and cruise implys you are using the GM ECU and TCU
in which case yes you should have an OBD2 port that you could monitor data from.
If you just want the simplicity of a gauge, it sounds like you already have one. you can leave it in the line pressure port. It will read slightly higher than pan but nothing detrimental
You can also have a bung welded into the pan and you can put your sensor there.

I was fine how it is till someone told me the pressure port is not the best place for the temp sensor. Since the temp will read higher. I was imagining my gage 20-30 degrees higher than should be.
