New way to KILL your 3-4 clutch pack ...thanks SON AXE
My son just redid his tranny for his 2002 TA with as much of good ol dads smarts as he could use. We decided to use the fancy sonnax input drum with installed billet shaft. Installed completed tranny and things went well for awhile, then 3rd started getting wonky and finally no 4th. Tranny comes out again...chase down every reason why you could lose 3-4...tore hair for a few weeks then finally found it !!!
The cupped orifice at the bottom of the drum with a tenny tiny hole in it was GONE
with the cup gone the piston held nothing as all pressure just leaked right out
my son called sonnax and they state that they get the drums new from GM and that GM stalks the plugs in the drums on assembly
I just so happen to have a new sonnax drum in my parts pile awaiting my tranny rebuild .....I see no stalking around that plug
moral of story ....stalk the plug on your drums !!!
The internet is such an interesting place
Share great info for a long time, involvement is limited at times.
Mention on a few posts that people have dirty parts and the world explodes
Good thing I didn't mention something like "converters go bad from sitting" or you'd see LS1tech get popular like the facebook groups have blown up lately HA!
Seems these days people are more interested in trying to find mistakes in posts and making a big deal out of it instead of trying to help. They have nothing to add to the thread until someone makes a mistake and then they point it out and then disappear. Never adding anything positive to the thread. I have seen threads that went for a day or two with no one replying. I am not confident about the area they are having a problem but try to help and then someone doesn't agree with my post, and they jump all over it. That's fine but they still didn't try to help the OP they just won't to run someone down. I guess that makes them feel smarter than the rest of us.
Omg seriously?
Was planning getting a converter from FTI and put it in the garage until i rebuild my 60.
Damn. Now i will buy one when i actually need it.
Btw, Dog hair is nothing.
Let me introduce you to my first 60 build :
It was waaay before i met you guys. And at least this tranny is super clean. Vodka and sprite did its job.

That kind of falls under "Either lead, follow or get the hell out of the way!!!"
