Default Deep pan

I have a 2004 pontiac GTO with a built 4l60e. I'm thinking about going with a deep aluminum pan like the B & M. With the deeper pan do I need a different filter than a stock replacement? Also do I continue to use my stock dipstick?

Dipstick will be OK as is because fluid level will still be at the pan gasket. The deep pan may come with a filter adapter to move the pickup down lower. Make sure you have ground clearance for a deep pan. GTOs are fairly low slung.

Most people use a steel deep pan from a truck, something like this Dorman 265-811 and a stock filter for said truck deep pan. This Dorman pan on Summit is $50.95. I don't like the drain plug on the Dorman pan but I'm sure you can find others from places like Rock Auto Jegs and Amazon. I welded over the plug and moved it to the side. It has been on my Firebird for years without any issues.

Turns out the oem GTO filter with the extension B&M provides with their pan is too deep. I'm hitting the filter way before the pan sits flush with the gasket. Apparently the GTO uses a deeper pan than other cars with the 4l60e. I guess I need the fbody filter with the extension for the B&M pan.

As far as I know all F-body cars came with a shallow pan, that is flat front to rear. The trucks got a deep pan starting in 1996 It has a step in the bottom and there are 2 different filters for those. 1 works from 1996 to 2004. & the 2004 & up version. The second type GM removed the dipstick stop and added a notch to the pan. The notch pan incorporated the dipstick stop and the filter will retrofit all deep pans but the early will not fit the notched pan. Corvettes, Colorado/Canyons have there own special filters.
Hers a link listing all the 700R4-4L60E filters from WIT.

I ended up using the shallow pan fbody filter with the extension B&M provides. It was a perfect fit for the B&M pan.

I did lose some ground clearance, but the pan is still slightly higher than my headers

I had a 2-3 shift flare. It’s hard for me to say for sure after a couple test pulls because of tire spin with the f1a-94 on an Ls3 block with forged internals, but it didn’t seem to flare on a 2-3 shift during street testing yesterday.
