Default Trans cooler questions

I'm doing a 4l80e swap in my 2001 Camaro and I'm using a derale trans cooler with a fan. Link for the cooler is below. For anyone who has used the same cooler where did you mount it? It looks like a tight fit up front unless I mount it to the crash bar and remove the styrofoam. I was also considering a rear mount. Also, I've heard to never bypass the stock cooler, but if I'm using one like what I have can I bypass the stock cooler?

People bypass the stock cooler all of the time with no adverse effects.

I built/ran an 89 Astro van for 286K miles with a by-pass cooler, never changed fluid. The fluid was a dark redish brown when I sold it Transmission worked very well still after all those miles.

i 've installed similar remote mounted coolers that come with a fan or sometimes with a huge heat sink when there is no room up front to mount a standard cooler. by passing the factory cooler is not a problem. i usually get the largest one i can fit upfront and mount it either with the plastic zip like mounts they usually come with or bolt it in somehow. always good to make sure the engine runs at normal temp, cooling fan works correctly and there are no restrictions in the cooling fins of the ac condenser (if you have ac) or the radiator. After a good test drive i always check the trans fluid temp at the pan with a temp gun to make sure the cooler is doing its job. Just as long you have room up front for a cooler without a fan, that should work fine.

It's a remote cooler you can put it wherever you want. I'm running an even bigger Derale cooler 13870 on my 91 Camaro with a built 4l80e and fairly loose Circle D converter. I've got it mounted out back on the trunk sump.

I had mine mounted on the rear ttop holder as well. Worked okay. I attempted up front but with FMIC it would not fit anywhere.

I switched to a derale stacked plate style mounted up front (i have no condenser) with a thin fan and it does perform better than the top mounted style

Well, you haven't "heard" that here, as we have always said there is no problem bypassing the stock cooler. It is often even recommended.
The ONLY reason to include the stock cooler, was for cold weather starts as the radiator tends to warm up faster and therefore could warm up the transmission to operating temperature. I suspect many/most fancy builds are no longer DDs and/or never in cold weather.
I like to point out that if your radiator is 20+ years old, the trans cooler line in it would spring a leak and thereby ruin the trans almost instantly. This has been reported several times here by unlucky members.

It can be bypassed but by utilizing the factory cooler it allows for more oil capicity and helps to keep the transmission running even cooler. Just did this very thing on the V6-V8 swap on my 99 build which has a new radiator.

I'm using a trucool 40k in my 2000 SS without a fan. Mounted right infront of the radiator. Temps are 145F in 90F weather, rad bypassed.

I'm using both and I haven't seen mine go above 120°. What I haven't done yet is to use the transbrake and make a pass down the strip.
