Default New electronics in older core?

Hello. I've recently acquired a 2012 silverado with the 4L60E, I've got a spare trans (all neutrals), and a spare 2000 trans that works well. Wondering how hard/possible it'd be to a) put the electronics from the 12 trans into the 00 core, or b) put the internals from the 00 trans into the 12 core. I know they have different computers and whatnot but idk what's different beyond that. Any help appreciated

There are numerous changes made to the 2009 & up units compared to a 2000.
  1. addition of the ISS sensor
    1. Input shaft
    2. Stator shaft
  2. Internal mode switch
  3. removal of the Fluid Pressure Switch
  4. removal of the 3-2 control solenoid
  5. Vale body changes
  6. Case made some passage changes (I'm told)
So your best bet is to sell the 2000 unit and find a 2009 & newer unit or rebuild the old one

Not really as stated something you can do while yes some parts will swap up most of the most important parts you need simply won't . I would just rebuild the 2012

Yes, it will be much easier/cheaper to either rebuild you 2012 trans or get a 2009+. It also avoids the likely wear (out) of a 23 year old transmission. The missing ISS is the biggest issue.

Now going the other way, e.g. using a 2012 4L60E in a pre-2009 car is not as difficult. An earlier valve body and internal harness are the primary changes needed. But putting an early 4L60E is a 2009+ car requires an extensive rebuild.

A 2005 PCM can not control a 2009+ 4L60E.

2009+ Use an Internal Mode Switch instead of the traditional Fluid Pressure Switch Manifold + External Gear Selector Position and Neutral Safety Switch.

For Wiring/ Connector information for all Model Years, see the Thread in the HyperLink below:

You would need to install a pre 2009 valvebody assembly, linkage shaft, internal harness assembly. No real wiring to do just swap all of that from earlier unit, But beware depending on what was wrong with previous unit you might be swapping the problems too

would i need to remove the trans from the vehicle in order to do so? Or could those parts be changed while in the vehicle?

Not all the 2009+ Cases have bosses for the NSS.

I would suggest a 2003-2006 valve body from ebay ($120), a brand new internal harness ($40) and manifold pressure switch ($30). As Frank said, it can all be installed from under the car with only removing the trans pan. Oh, and get a new filter while you are at it. Likely will take 8 or 9 quarts of fluid to refill it.

Changing the Selector-Shaft (and Seal) and Linkage here will be crucial in the Conversion.
