Alright, I figured out a way to remove the clip on the 1996 valvebody without removing the vb itself. I used some hemostats to squeeze the ears of the clip till they bend strait. Before(different valve location for visual) After(notice ears strait) With the hemostats between the strait ears spread till no longer in end plug groove and spring pushes valve and plug outward. This is not as easy to keep tension on this while spreading but stay with it. (Some have used cheap needle nose pliers and filed or ground till thin enough to fit clip hole). After the plug pops out or is assisted remove valve and spring.
Part 2 of 96 valvebody. When i pulled the valve and spring this is what was in the bore. The valve shown and the bluish spring. I double and triple checked and no additional valve in bottom of this bore. This is the fitzal i ordered but the instructions and the others on forum show the small piece my vb does not have. Will this still work and if so should i use spring in hole even though the new valve will not be moving?
The valve in question is a trans go ISO conv valve. The small inner valve from the 1996 valvebody is missing. After looking at the transgo instructions it is removed and this valve is used and a blue spring installed. If i need the small inner valve for a 96 vb what other years had the same design as the 96?
I would go with one of two options/
KEEP THE TG valve and blue spring and replace end cap with an o'ringed one. ALL SET FOR THE 94 (WILL RESULT IN A SIMPLE ON OFF OPERATION WITH PRESSURE LIMIT REGULATON VIA THE SPRING INCLUDED)
USE THE FITZALL also does not require and inner valve but I usually do put a stiff spring like the blue one from TG behind it just because and while not required as it is a super tiny leak of AFL peen the feed in plate that would normally feed the isolator side of the converter regulator valve. (RESULT LOCKUP ON/OFF. PRESSURE EQUAL TO LINE PRESSURE - FINE AS LONG AS NO PLANS FOR LOCKUP AT WOT AS MAX LINE AND TCC MAY DAMAGE CONVERTER APPLY PLATE OR BACK VIA DISTORTION )
in both cases still use the 96 plate and retain the pwm solenoid just wont be plugging in.

I have probably 100 of them but never actually measue one , But will when back in shop later or tommorrow . But If I remember right the ones on the 1-2 2--3 shift solenoid are actually the same size .

Thanks Frank. If you have a size i only have the old one on transmission and the old 2-3 solenoid from the valvebody to pull from. Did not rebuild this transmission trying an experiment but wanted to replace this before putting torque converter on. When you check if your able to get a size that would be great if not not a problem. Also can the green style o rings be used here?

Trans is in and finally mounted to engine. The 1996 transmission has a small vss
VS
The wiring in the car which is the larger sensor and plug
Is it possible to re-pin a small plug, using the wiring from the early style plug, but using the newer sensor and matching plug style? Maybe more simply carefully depin the old plug and snap into the smaller plug?

You can repin it and see how it works. If it doesn't work, you won't hurt anything; just switch it back to how it was and find another way.
It's not like you're going to short anything out and blow a fuse.
I have both tailhousings and both style sensors. Is one better than the other or do both work equally well? Probably over thinking it.
Over thinking. Just use the tail housing and sensor that fits the cars wiring or wire in the correct VSS pig tail that fits the sensor you want to use. It's only two wires. I don't think it matters which wire goes were, but it is easy enough figure out their orientation. Just turn the plugs so both are facing the same way and move, pin or connect one wire at a time.
I chose the small sensor as my car came with the large one and it went bad. It was such a nightmare to get to and unplug remove between location and crossmemeber . I had to remove crossmember to get it out. I stopped , went on ebay bought a tail housing and sensor for 50 dollars that and a 10 dollar harness end and made it the small , So that if I do ever have to change it again it will be accessable and easy.
