Read up on them, and however high you think you want/can handle go at least one step higher
~3200 stall being the minimum (Vig3200 still a good choice though, it is underated)
I don't know about matching to a cam, most people get converters before cams for good reason.
How you pick a cam and how you pick a converter kind of have the same criteria. The bigger the converter the worse it is for street driving (for most ppl), but hte better the gains are especially at the track. The same is true of cams, the bigger they are the better they perform, esp at track, but they are more of a hastle on the street. I think you just put a moderate size cam with moderate stall, and huge cam with huge stall. The bigger the cam is the higher it's RPM range where it makes it's best power, typically, and you want a higher stall to make full use of it

Transmission cooler. The B&M 24k GVW cooler is very popular.
Shift kit. Helps firm up the shifts, which would get even looser with converter. Also suppose to help extend transmission life through less slippage. The TransGo is very popular, runs around $110. A basic/simple tune of shift points is recommended and sometimes requied. I got mine at LS1 Speed, was suppose to be $150 based on website, they said they'd charge me $100 and we had it all figured out (i did all my converter stuff thorugh them, install and all) and when I got the bill it was not on the list. A program like LS1 edit could do that, and I htink even a hypertech or HPTuners would work as well.

The weight of your truck will cause the converter to "stall" a bit higher (feel "looser").

I'd say the same minimum as I recommend for anyone in general. 3500+ (or Vig3200). It would probably like a little bit bigger stall, say 3800 or so, but 3500 should be fine as far as I can tell. (no first hand experience though) I plan on installing the TSP 231/237 or similer cam in the spring actually
I just can't stand to wait that long

I'll be one to go against the grain here. When used for city traffic, think of stall as lag. I went from stock (1800) to Vig3000 in a C5 Vette. I picked a 3000 stall because it was recommended, and that's the rpm where my torque curve starts. Turns out that the Vig is 400rpm higher stall than other brands. When I first drove it, it was more stall than I expected. I never got used to it like everyone said I would. I like a responsive car, and the high stall made it feel unresponsive in traffic. When I take it out to a country road, it only spends a half second below stall, but I miss blipping the throttle and having the car react.
