Did you also zip tie the black switch? The white clutch switch has to be closed 100%. I used duck tape and 2 rubberbands. I'll try to take a pic of the two switches tonight for you. The reverse lights have to wired into the "park/neutral safety switch. I had to buy one from a junk yard. it plugs into the right on the shifter. It will have the brown and green wire that need to be wired into from the reverse input under the car where it plugged into the passenger side of the t56. I haven't wired it up yet, but this should work.

I have about 2400. involved with my swap.
level 3 4l60e w/ 2500 stall TC: 1550.
crossmember: 30.
wiring harness adapter: 214.
PCM reprogram from Thunder racing: 85.
dipstick:30.
A4 console 50.
A4 shifter cable: 45.
shifter ****: 20.
A4 shifter: 55.
hayden trans cooler: 50.
trans fluid: 50.
ARP bolt kit for flexplate and TC: 40.
SPI flexplate: 150.
poly trans mount: 25.
If all goes together well then thats what you should expect to pay. other than the new parts from thunder racing and the transmission itself, I purchased cosmetic stuff such as consoles, shifters etc off Ebay for way cheaper than new parts. It has taken weeks of planning and searching for deals on the internet. I've had absolutely no clue on how to do this but this site has been a huge resource for me. Asking lots of questions helps. Thanks to all that responded to my PM's. Will have the install stage completed by this coming Thursday and will post on my success. PM me if you need any help.

Default M6 to A4 additional note

I didn't include the torque converter in the above costs. I want to see how my car drives first then figuire out how much stall I want. Being as how this is a crucial component that effects my whole set up and the costs involved for a perfomance converter, I'll make sure to get it right the first time for my DD ride.

Can this swap be done without swapping an m6 harness for a a4 harness? I am swapping with a guy who has a m6 and he is relying on me to come up with the wiring that he will need to do. Please tell me someone has done this swap an kept the m6 harness. My car is a 98 and his is an 01. Those harnesses won't swap will they?
Im not srue about the diff. years swapping, but you cant run a 4L60E w/o the harness. or an aftermarket trans controller with its own stand alone harness. simple way would be for you two to swap harness' if the pcm and other connectors are the same.

I need to know how to wire up my m6 car for the a4.
get a manual valvebody and forget the wiring except the reverse lights and neutral safety switch. oh, and speedo sensor conn. is different.

get a stall convertor. one that match's your heads cam. if stock, and performance is main goal, get like a 3600. 4000 stall if drag racing is your main objective. night and day diff. between a good 9.5" stall conv. to the stock one. but none of that will make the eng. make more power, or make the trans use less HP. and it will make the dyno think the eng. is making less power, but thats only due to the way the dyno loads against the engine. its misconcieving.

as for beefing internals on the stock 4L60E, yeah, thats tons that will make it stronger. not enough of a tranny guy to explain that stuff though. but like I said, none of that will make the trans use less HP.

Who makes a manual valvebody for the 4l60? I'm thinking of converting my car back to an A4 after the summer.

hmm, not sure, but all the big companies make them for the 700r4.
Im sure you could alwayse use a shift kit they have full manual control options. make for a simple build too. I suggest trans-go.

I will look into it. Do they make trans breaks for the 4l60? I have a rmvb 400, but I just dont want to give up overdrive.

They are expensive, but maybe I can sell all the M6 crap for a 4L80. I need to read more into the A4 conversion so I want to start collecting parts. I could kick myself for converting my car to M6 in the first place, it was fun for a while, but I want to start hitting the track more and an A4 is the only way to go.

The only thing really more expensive than other trannies is the converter. But there are budget 4l80 converters out there now.

Thanks for all this info guys, have a few questions.

What are these parts, and their part numbers?
Park Neutral switch and shiftlock controls
Shiftlock control wiring pigtail
And where are these located on the car?

Also How do I get my cruise controll to keep working?

The Cruise signal wire goes to the clutch then the brake pedal, just bypass the clutch pedal.

I assume you are going with a stock f-body shifter?
