I need help, I have been researching this forever now, but I just want to buy one!!!

I am definatly getting a yank.

Is a ST3500 a good converter to buy? Should I spend 900 dollars and get a new SS3600 or SS3800? I have a friend that wants to sell me his ST3500 with low miles for really cheap but I want someone to tell me that it would be a good converter for me to get for reassurance.

I have these mods: and go to the track every other week. I want SPEED!!! But I do not want my drivability to suck. If I frown every time I have to drive around town I wont be happy. Dont care that much about gas milage though...

3.73 Gears, Hooker Longtube Headers with ORY, Electric cutout, Lid, Bellows, BFG Drag Radials, Bilstien Shocks, Eibach Pro kit, Cold Air Hood, FRA Mod, EGR Mod...

Please help me! I want the ST3500 so bad but I want someone to tell me that they would recommend it so that it will ease my mind.

I am wanting opinions on the ST3500 and whether or not I should get it. I can get the ST3500 for 300 dollars, or I can pay 900 plus shipping for a new SS3600 or SS3800 from yank.

ST 3500 was a great converter. Some of them developed shudder because the clutch material would glaze. So there is a risk that could happen. You might call Yank and discuss whether they have a new clutch material. $300 for the converter, $200 for the clutch R&R and you'd have an awesome converter for $500.

 

Understand you are sold on Yank, but if that changes... I echo what Nsty98LS1 said.

well i was going to suggest a ssf 3500. happy hunting.

 

I was all about getting a yank too. After three months and then them telling me they never got my order kind of pissed me off. The shop I ordered from showed me the emails they sent them. I could never get them to answer thier phone. Plus I've read lots of posts about there bad customer service. They may have the best converters but I decided I didn't want to deal with that crap. From my research I decided the SS3800 is the best for my setup. I went with a PI Vigilante 3800 (closest thing I could find to the SS3800) and just drove it for the first time today. I think it would drive about the same as the SS3800. It is not too high of a stall to drive daily. It feels way different but not untolerable. I can still drive with my cutout open and I have long tubes. You have to excelerate a lot slower to not wake up the neiborhood. Or you can go about 75% throttle and get it to lock up real quick. It seems like it locks up around 36mph. I know this isn't the exact converter your looking at but I figured it might give you an idea what the SS3800 might drive like. Good luck with your choice.

I had a friend run a 11.21 @ 12x with a ST3500. its a great converter. He'd definately recomend it. It runs 11.6 on motor. Just make sure your friend had no lockup trouble.

 

you dont need us to tell you if we like that converter or not.... sounds to me like your allready sold on it

 

Just get it off to Yank for a restall and re-fresh
The new ss coverters are great.
I have the sy3500 streetability has been great with 3.42
Remember ,there will always be a better converter coming out from Yank .

I am not sold on anything. I am actually thinking about getting a TCI now because I decided that I diddnt want a converter with as many miles as the one I was going to buy.

Which TCI should I get for the best drivability/street performance/track performance. I want it to pull like a **** but not feel like a dragcar untill I slam on the gas.

 

the ssf 3500... it's an awsome converter for the price. we just did a GP on here a few months ago, and i havent heard a problem from any of them...

i cruise the highway at about 2 rpm, the same as before i had the converter installed. when you get on it, it wakes up.

 

I've got the Yank SY3500 with no regrets. It's my daily driver and does well around town and interstate. When I want more, I just put it to the firewall and go no complaints here.
