Default Locking Torque Convertor

I've got a 93 TA with a 700R4 tranny. I'm trying to get decent numbers on the dyno and good datalogs. I cant seem to keep the torque convertor locked up. I bring the rpm's up in 3rd and let the convertor lock up. By the way it is a 3600 stall. I bring the rpm up to about 3000 so it wont downshift and let er rip. It unlocks the convertor everytime. Am i doing something wrong? How do people keep there convertors locked during dyno pulls?

You have to lock the converter with your program... a converter will never stay locked when you floor it, that just defeats the purpose.

With that said, when will the convertor lock when flooring it ?

Programming is one way. Rigging up a switch inline with the TCC harness is another. You have to know which pin to ground.

The converter should never lockup at WOT unless you program it to. It is not programmed to do this from the factory.

BTW, the above info is what I know about 4L60-Es. I can't vouch for 700R4s but I would assume that they operate similarly in this regard.

ok....thanks for the info guys
Are most people with automatics locking there convertors by this means one the dyno? or are they just running them unlocked and letting them slip?

unlocked, as the car will be run like this at the strip/street races. at least for the normal folks.

I dyno my car unlocked for the majority of the runs.... then we locked the converter to see what the effiecency was, and to get the bigger numbers lol

So it is possible to see big gains with the convertor locked? I think my numbers are low due to the large stall.

I seen a 18hp difference between locked and unlocked on a Vig 3600 which would put it at 95% efficiency
