Exclamation SY3500 installed!! is something wrong?

first off, its different. i backed it up and it def. took more pedal to back it up. the SY3500 def. keeps it in the 25-3000 rpm range- is that normal?
cant really tell when it shifts-is that normal??

i hear a noise that i didnt hear w/ the stock verter. it seems to happen when i floor it and let off?? is it me or is something wrong?? PLEASE help me with this im worried????

I had the same questions when I got my Vig 2800 put in. As far as driving its gonna be very different. Heck I'm still adjusting! My shifts were very light, and I had it tuned so the shifts would be firmer! I remember thinking that there was a vibration after the converter was put in but I was wrong. The motor revs more, so its going to take getting use to!

At first I hated it! I bought my car new so I was use to the way it was! It was very smooth! and quiet. Did you install it or have it installed?

Try and describe the noise - whine, howl, grind, thump?

My TCI3000 wil creep the car (on level) at 700RPM idle
and accelerate as fast as the geezers hereabout at only
1500-2000. So I guess I'd expect a light acceleration on
your higher-stall, lower-STR to be similar, maybe 500RPM
above mine. It took me a couple of weeks to become used
to it and now I wouldn't have it (much) different - I'm just
looking to up the RPM a little.

But I picked up no noises.

It's normal to have to give it more pas to get it moving, it's going to slip more at low rpms, the rpms won't really change when it shifts much if at all, if you're just cruising around part throttle. All that's normal, mine does all the same things, it's a big bigger, but dont worry about that, eventually you won't even think about it.

As for the noise you're talking about? how fast are you going when you floor it? What does it sound like?

I have a stock converter in my LS1 but I had an aftermarket stall in an old '91 Mustang and I went back to a stock converter during a tranny rebuild and I was amazed how much tighter the pedal felt. It makes me wonder if I even want to go with an aftermarket stall in my LS1 because I don't race it.

Leaving from a stop, 2500 - 3000 rpm should be giving you brisk acceleration. If not recheck your fluid level.

You'll get use to a bigger stall. If it felt the same then there's be no reason to replace it

I got use to mine to the point I don't like driving stock converter Fbodys. However I would get the rattle checked out, maybe they left something loose.

Yeah a rattle should be something loose, like a shield as stated above. Tranny line touching something.....something like that. Not thinking loose bolt on the flywheel are you? If it is a heavier "rattle", leaning torwards knocking.......then it could be something internal. But once again you say that it is only present at certain rpms.....that leads me away from something internal. IMHO

I have had my sy3500 for 3 years now and I love it and thought about going bigger. You may not believe it now but in a few months to a year or so guess what you'll be looking at 4000 and 4200's. I also have 3.23's in the rear. The loose feel will be fine in a few.

Now for the worst case of events. I am not trying to rattle your cage but I hope you did't use the same old bolts from the stock veter. I used new bolts on my install and put lock tight on 2 or 3 bolts. Yeap one of them backed out and screwed up the flywheel. Had to drop it and do it all over again but this took a few months to happen. Just try to remember on the install if everything went in with good clearence and screwed in tight. If I remember correct you posted something 2nd guessing putting the verter in. Maybe you are being a little paranoid. Take it to another tranny shop and get their oppinion on the noise.

Good luck

ok thanks, yeah the mechanic at first said he heard a knocking noise and noticed the bolts needed cutting-- knocking was coming from bolts hitting flywheel. so he cut the bolts and then it was fine. now i just have this annoying rattle underneath that is around the 2000-2500 rpm range. after u run it up some its fine. any opinions on this is greatly appreciated. I dont think its the verter. also this may be normal with a stall converter but at take off there is a very slight vibration,?
