Default Thinking of going to a powerglide?

I say a Pewter SS along time ago running 9's with a Forged 346 and 200shot. Ever since then I have kicked around the idea of a PG for my car, I drive probaly less then a mile to work and would like the performance aspects of a PG for the strip (that and its an auto cause I suck with the M6 when I'm nervous) What all needs to be done to make it work and how bad would driving around town be and highway cruises?

True, but how cheap can I get a built one of those for? And from what i have seen a PG was doing hella good at the dragstrip, I was very impressed.

PG are used for lighter weighing cars as I understand. Th400 or a built TH350 would be a better decision in my opinion.

Glides are used in drag racers primarily so the car only shifts ONCE on a run - less room for inconsistent times.

Personally I'd never run one of those things unless I had a dedicated stripped down hard core racer.

as for them being in light cars....i dunno some chevelles came with them from the factory. it really depends on the rear end gears, and the "gear set" in the powerglide.

your right, we bought a 69 chevelle that had a glide in it, but it also had a 307 with no power so maybe having the 2 gears kept it in its power range?

I am also thinking of a glide, but my car is a stripped down 98 T/A that weighs in at 3125. It has been said that the magic # to run a powerglide and be worth while is 3000lbs or less. The great thing about them other than only one shift is they are light, cheap to rebuild and can hold alot of power/torque. Great transbrake tranny.
