Default What's the most efficient converter that will work well with regular street tires?

I still have the factory converter.

My car has 3.23 gears and will have every possible external horsepower bolt-on except for an aftermarket MAF and electric water pump. The car will be mostly street-driven and will occasionally be run on the dragstrip. I don't want to buy slicks or drag radials. I'll have plans for a heads and cam package 100,000 miles from now. I'm looking for a converter that won't hurt my MPH and will be easy to launch with on regular street tires. After using the search button, I've realized that I'll probably want to get a 2600 or 2800 stall converter. I've also read that Yank makes efficient converters. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

the super yank series convertor. probably a 3200 with low str

also the tci 3000 is real clean and nice convertor for daily driver.

but i personally would never recomend a convertor under 3200 for performance.

A Super Yank with its lower-than-stock STR of 1.63. I LOVE my SY3500 converter!

Hey, Damon! I just noticed your location.

I was born in Atlantic City a long, long time ago.

I grew up in Pleasantville and Northfield, graduated from Mainland Regional HS, and lived in Egg Harbor Township for 20+ years before retiring from the NJSP and moving up here to the mountains of NE Pennsylvania.

I have a Yank 3000 2.0 STR coupled to 3.73 gears, and I get very good traction with street tires, I have full BMR rear suspension upgrade, with SLP bolt on SFC.

I vote for the 3,000 2.0 str. I have a midwest 3,000 2.0str that i will be selling in a week or so. I just got a fuddle 3,800 stall and the midwest will be coming out. Since your in jersey we could meet up somewhere and i'll let you drive the car to see how the converter is. Its a good street converter but im now upgrading.. Ill sell it for 250 obo

Bingo! This will work great with street tires.

If you can't get this, look for a converter with an STR of 2.0 or less and 3200 - 3600 stall speed.

There is no 2600 converter worth buying. Start you search with a 3000 stall or higher (a Vig 2800 performs like a 3300 so that is the only exception to the 3000 rule for 3.23 gears and higher).

Hey, I know where you're coming from. I lived in EHT for 10 years and I've been living in Galloway for 11 years. It's nice to meet somebody from the hometown. It must be great to be retired in living in PA.

BubaGumpShrimp, thanks for the offer and the info, but I'm not ready for a torque converter yet. Just planning ahead for now.

Yup! That would get my vote. Isn't that the one Yank just brought back onto the market?? That is the one I wanted a few months ago when I was shopping for a converter, but they didn't offer it at the time, so I wound up with a SS 3800 oh well i'm shure i'll be plenty happy with it
