I busted my 02 flexplate tonight so I thought I'd add to the thread. Made plenty of hard 5000 lb. launches with the 3200 stall and finally broke after 60,000 miles. Not too bad, huh? Looks like I'll be replacing it this weekend.

Dammit you guys. You're gonna make me check my flexplate and bolts on Friday.

Mine is an early 2000 car, stock flexplate. It looked fine when I threw the converter in there 18,000 miles ago. I do know a few guys who have grenaded theirs though. Although, the guys I know with the same converter as me in a '98 and '99 car respectively are still doing fine with the stocker.

I'll inspect it and check bolt torque while I'm changing the tailshaft bushing. I'm gonna be spraying later in the year, and I don't want to risk losing my legs. I've grown kind of attached to them. I guess if it looks bad, I'll replace it with an LS2 plate.

Mine had three small cracks at about 85K on my 2002 when I pulled the tranny to do my high stall. I have no idea how long it had been cracked prior.

I think mine might have went last night. I'd been hearing noise at start up for awhile and had it to a shop that said they couldn't hear anything abnormal. Someone else that knows more about cars than me said it was probably the starter. If I had seen this thread before I would have known. GM should have sent out letters to owners on something like this if they knew they had the bolts torqued wrong WTF!

Last night it started making clunking/grinding/squealing noise and I shut it off and started it back up and it was fine. Pulled in the garage and the noise on start up had gotten worse and now the starter just whirs. I'm guessing it's going to be the flexplate. Just waiting for my friend to open his shop today to see if I can get it on the lift.

yea my guess is that mine would have looked like that if i let it go. My crack was between 2 of the teeth and would probably spread just like yours did.. Once you get the new one and take the old one out you will see how thin cheap *** pos stock one compairs to a good one..

WOW!
I hope the driver still has both feet and legs!
What was happening about the time it let go?
Was it wound up to high RPMs in a drag race?
Inquiring minds want to know.

yea he still has his legs lol.

From what i understood is that he had a starter fail, he was on his way home from getting the starter replaced, he said he turned a courner and let it rip 1st and 2nd gear when he herd a big bang and the motor started shaking very bad so he shut it off and had it towed home. He thougt he blew the motor lol

Mine was cracked at all 3 converter bolt holes. It cracked from the starter gear in towards the bolt holes. I got a 99 flexplate to change it out. When i was torquing the crank bolts one broke so got it out and got some ARP bolts.

I thought my starter was going south, my truck was sounding a little funny when I started it. Lucky for me it drove in to the garage under its own power before replacement.

This is the same one I am using in my '02, so far, so good. Only about 500 miles on the current cam only combo. Shifting at 6700 and just ran an 11.75@115 tonight. It looked like a quality piece and was SFI approved.
