Default M6 guys that made the change.

If you had it to do over again would you go to an automatic? I am thinking of going to a TH 400. I love to go to the dragstrip in the car and I am tired of the crappy track prep and trying to get the car to hook. I think it will do alot better with an auto. I want to drive to the track as well what gear should I use 3.42 or 3.23? The od trannies aren't going to take the abuse or I would use one of those.

I recently swapped in a built 4l60e . No regrets at all , I did keep the M6 knowing I'll go back someday . Do more homework on the 4l80e's , as it's basically a 400 with o/d .

Built 4L80E = $$$$$$$$$
I went from a T56 to a TH350 and absolutely love it. my M6 used to 60 ft ok 1.59-1.70's and my auto now 60's 1.46-1.50 It is consistent as hell! never miss shifts and don't have to worry about blowing up the M6 anymore. The ONLY thing that SUX is if you do alot of highway driving. 70 mph is 3500 rpm's in my car. but i would still do it all over again.

What gear do you run SUX2BU? 4.10? That;s pretty steep.

You're pretty lucky IMO. I say this because when I go to do a TH400 swap I'll have to finance everything out of pocket. You on the other hand have a complete T56 setup worth a nice chunk of change to the many A4 guys wanting to swap to a M6. So with that said, don't keep your T56. You can use the proceeds to pay for a good portion of your A3 setup. Make sure it's what you want first and then go all the way with it.

Almost any auto guy will tell you 3.73's are the way to go. I would keep the 3.42's myself. It's a nice performace gear that will help you a little on highway MPG. TH400 with trans brake and 4000 stall will rock your world at the strip. Once you go there you'll probably never want to look back. I was looking to do a M6 swap myself once. Then I took the advice of a long forgotten poster here "the colonel" and put a 3500 stall in my car instead. Now I'm like "T fifty what?"

Good luck.

Well since the car is a six speed now, I have a 4.10 in there. That is the reason I was asking. I know that I want to drive the car some and the 4.10 with no overdrive is too much for anything besides 1/8mi only strip use. The 3.42 would def be my choice with an overdrive tranny, but what about the 3.23 to keep the revs down on the highway with the th400?

yeah i have 4.10's with my 31" tires. it comes out to about the same as 3.42's and stock tires. you could run some 28" street tires to help out.

I did this and love it. At the track it is night and day. I have 4.10 gears and run 28" tires at the track and will on the street next year. M&H Drag Radials. 275/50/17.

If it is a body mount you are good to go. If a tailshaft mount it could be an issue, I have the BMR body mount on mine and it works great.

I'm doing the swap myself over the winter... I have a hughes th400 on it's way back from hughes all rebuilt, a new driveshaft and a big converter.. should be in the 4500+ range in my car. I'm running 4.10's now, and am leaving them in. I will not be doing alot of highway driving.. but will be on a hoosier 27 x 11.5 qtp at the track... and eventually will pick up a set of weld's for the street, and toss 28 inch radials on them.. shouldn't require too much in teh way of cutting the wheel well up, as the radial shouldn't grow like a bias ply does.

if you are spraying.. you will be o.k. with the 4.10's as long as you don't plan on trapping much over 125. Bman on this site went 10.5 at 127 or somethign like that with the 4.10's still in on a 27 x 11.5 QTP tire, ans was just running out of gear at teh top end, not sure what he has the limiter set at, but I'm sure it's nothing crazy.
