Default Trans pan

I have....well, the tranny is in the sig. anyway i have someone willing to sell me a TCI deep pan for it with cooling fins and drain plug. I was told by the tranny shop that the new pan doesn't support the filter and they have had numerous problems with aftermarket pans causing the tranny to burn up.

Can someone explain how the pan has anything to do with the filter, i'm just a little confused. Should i stay away from the pan?

The deep pan holds an additional 2 quarts; the burned out trannys they saw might have been from insufficient fluid. First I've heard about not supporting the filter.

the deeper pan requires a "filter extension". i have a tci deep pan and i'll be the first to tell you that the extension is a pos. possibly the other trannies burned up because the extension feel off/was improperly installed and they starved for fluid?

and i believe that the pan holds an addition 3 quarts...

I have seen TCI pans with nipples on the bottom to support the filter...am I confusing pans?? The TCI unit for 4l60e/700r4 only holds an additional 2qts.

The pan I have (now on the shelf at my mechanic buddy's
shop) had four prongs whose length was fit to the stock
F-body filter depth. We ground them back to permit using
the truck filter so as to never starve the pickup. The
filter should always be supported by the pan, not held
up by the extension. If you need the extension try the
truck filter instead.

I have a summit deep pan (part SME-1008R) that came with the extension. It fits into the filter neck, but it is not 'tight'. The seal 'just' seals around the pickup extension. If you were to just slightly pull on the extension it will fall out. On the other hand the filter usually fits quite tightly into the neck, and so I am worried the seal is not good enough to ensure proper flow.

FWIW, I'm using a TCI filter and it sits on the bottom of the 1008R pan, so I'm not worried about it falling out/apart during use. I'm just concerned about the seal. Can anyone else provide experience with these pans?

I installed a TCi deep pan for my TH400. It was the first time I dropped the pan and changed the filter on a trans. I was a bit surprised at the filter extension, and I didn't think it was constructed properly and it seemed like it might fall off and starve the trans of oil.

I have the TCI deep pan. It's two extra quarts. There are 4 nubs that support the filter as stated earlier. Wasn't an exact fit had to grind some off the nubs to make it not crush the filter. I think they're cast like that so there is enough material for sure, better too much than not enough.
