A3 > M6, at least in a turbo application. I gave up my M6 for a th400 and the car is much faster. Auto's spool a turbo car much faster and never lose boost between shifts.

Yes, it's even faster from a roll Puts the power to the ground a lot better.

I still have the clutch peddle in my car and have to press it to start the car. I think i'm going to wire my transbrake on a toggle switch (arm/disarm) to the clutch peddle as well. I still have to shift the trans manually, just no peddle.

I had an auto that ran 12 flat. Now I have a 6 speed.

There's no way a 6 speed will stay with an good auto, but the M6 is more fun around town.....slower, but more fun.

Drag car only - Auto is faster and more consistant.

Street car - Manual is generally preferable.

Now considering most people use their cars as daily drivers, manual is usually the transmission of choice. More fun, better fuel economy, cheaper to buy, and faster in stock form

True, but I think it would get annoying shifting all the time. I would only really enjoy it when im racing. And even then i'd miss the speed and consistency of the 4L60E...eh maybe the M6 just isn't for me. Funny how I ended up with the A4 even after looking for an M6 for months...

I respect any F-body in the 9's. But forgive me if I respect stalled autos in the 8's, 7's and 6's just a tad more

Getting an auto guy to agree to this kind of race can be difficult though. As an auto guy who is well knowledged on my transmission I would know to either speed up to 60+ or slow down to 25.
kinda a old quote but.....

you have 2 options if you to get to first. my car used to have 2.73 gears, if you pull the shifter down to first gear below 45 mph it goes to first. or you can get a tune.....which i see you have but maybe they didnt tune the trans shifts? right now i have a 3.42 gear and if i hit the gas i have it tuned to go to first at 38 mph and below..........but now i have a cam and a rev limit of 6800 with a shift of 6600. so if i had a even bigger cam with lets say a 7000 shift i could easily get into first at 42 mph maybe more...........autos rule

agree with fast98, i have my tuning set to go to first anything under 40, i have 3.23 gears and there is no dead spot for me in the 35-40 range.

A good converter will completely eliminate any dead spots

It definately helped the dead spot but didn't eliminate it. Punching at 35 (with 3.23's) now is much better but still no match for punching it at 25-30

I almost bought an auto with plans for a stall, but I drive mine daily to and from school. So it was kinda like "do I want 4 gears or 6?" I have 4.10s and they are great for acceleration, but I can still cruise along at 65 mph in 6th at 1700 rpms with the tall gears. In traffic it gets annoying with the constant shifting and clutch but hey - each trans has its tradeoff's.

My car is a street car first and foremost. I'd like to eventually get into autoX and roadracing as well, I bought the better trans to suit my needs.

Just my experience but 2 cars A4 vs M6 in a 1/4 same HP but A4 is stalled, the A4 will probably win. In a roll race I would say anybody's guess.

It doesn't need to be re-tuned because roll races are for kids with manuals. There is no dead spot at the NHRA tree. Traction is another story

Speaking of high school kids, I was out in the Bay Area hanging with my brother and 16 year old nephew. They were discussing what it would take for him to buy an LS1 for the boy's first car. My brother said it would have to be an automatic because he would drive it too, and a clutch would be a no-go with his bad leg. My nephew said "no way" to an automatic. I told him automatics are quicker. He agreed, but said he couldn't have an automatic because the other kids at school would rip on him about it ...

I run about the same RPM's in my A4...though I have 3.23 gears.
