Who Here Daily Drives a 4000 stall?
I'm looking for advice. I'm planning on stalling my car with a 3500+ converter in the next month or so, and have been heavily considering the TCI 4000. Two local guys love theirs, but the one that I can get in touch with doesn't daily drive his.
I want to go with as high of a stall as I can, considering that my goal is to go as fast as I can stock internal, then cam the car. I'm not planning on spraying any time soon.
So let me know what you guys think, is a 4000 stall okay to drive on the street daily?

how big of a cam are you planning on doing? I ran a 232/236 112 LSA 595 lift cam with my 3.73's out of a 12 bolt and a Yank SS3600. That stall was perfect for that setup. I'd say stick with that, unless you are going to be using the HPE "S" cam, TREX, or Magic Stick. Then go 4000 +, IMHO!

I have a Yank SS4000 in my car. The only other mods I have are: lid, 3.73's, M/T ET streets and a dynomax bullet muffler. With just that, I've pulled a 1.58 60ft on the motor and gone 12.10 @ 111mph (on the motor). It also pulls the driver side wheel off the ground every time. And yes, I drive mine everywhere. It feels looser than stock obviously but its no big deal.

Just put my TCI 4k in 2 weeks ago. Love the way it feels. Not too big IMO. Drives nice and sounds great around town. At WOT the 1-2 shift only drops from 6000 to 5200 rpms. Traction is a bit of an issue though.

I've been debating on one also. I've heard a few people say that 4000 is way too loose around town and you really have to get on it to move anywhere. But they love it at the track. I'm thinking 3600 just to be safe. Does this hurt your gas mileage a lot and what speed do your guys' lock up at?

I have a Fuddle 3800 and love that thing. It locks up at around 30mph if i leave it in 3 and 40mph in D. It does take a little more throttle to get it moving but as soon as it locks up it drives fine. I drive mine everywhere.

I got a 3400 and love it so far. Ive only driven the car home since it was installed. Snow + trans am with 3400 stall = yikes. But it totally fixed my bog.
I personally think with that cam i wouldnt go over 3600... seems like a waste to have a huge stall when the cam has a 2500-7000 power band. I vote 3600.

fuddle 3,800 here also. Drive it every day.. It does take a little bit of time to get use to and it is loose though you already have 3.73 gears so it should be a bit better. I like mine and when it locks up its just like stock.

What is you do not plan on doing a cam for a little while? Just bolt ons.... How does the 4k perform with no cam? I was set on 3600 2.2 str but im second guessing myself, would a 3800 or 4k be too big for no cam for a while?

Yea, thats why widening my rims is high on my list so i can throw some wide nittos on there, haha. Thanks a lot! maybe ill do a 3800 or 4k! How lets say i have the same bolt ons as a car with an m6, but i have a 4k stall. I No from a dig it wouldnt be close like at the track unless he is damn good driver, but from a roll...... How would i fair up? Would i need a few extra ponies to make up for my parasitic loss?

I drive my car every day with a 4200. Leaving a light I'm usually doing 2500 rpm to keep up with traffic, 3000rpm if it's an uphill leaving the light. I saw some decrease in gas mileage, about 3mpg, but I can live with that. I have the car tuned to lock up in 3rd at about 35mph and about 50mph in 4th. As soon as the convertor locks, I'll be right at or above 1500rpms whether I'm in 3rd or 4th. If I programmed her to lock any sooner, she'd really bog as soon as the converter locked. I keep her in 3rd gear until I'm above 50mph, and then shift into 4th. I'm running completely stock internals, no cats, cutout, and 3:42 gears. I've had the stall in for ~25K miles now and no complaints.

NON lock up 5,100 stall here with stock internals. It is no where near what everybody thinks when it comes to driveability. To stay ahead of traffic from a light i rev to about 2,500 rpms. I was planning on going cam only when i chose this converter and i think its hurting my 60's a little. so if your planning on staying SI for a while i would recomend a 4,600 or so.
BTW i daily drive mine and get about 15 city/20 hwy with 4.10's and no overdrive.

so you found a big difference from a fuddle 3800 to a fuddle 4000? Im in debate of what size to go between 3600 to 4k
