Default guys w/ prothane tras. mount...

ok, so i just installed my prothane poly trans. mount. installation was easy, yada yada....

now i have wicked vibration. is it just because it's a solid mount? my stock rubber one was splitting, due to my shift kit i assume. the vibration is only noticeable when the converter is not locked...once it locks, it gets pretty smooth. with the stock mount, the car was SILKY SMOOTH when stalling and after lockup. no vibration whatsoever.

has this happened to anyone else?

Prothane isn't solid...it's Polyurethane...

I can't comment but I do plan on doing that when my tranny is out before the new one goes in, simply to prevent breaking the stock one...i'll keep an eye on this thread.

yeah, i know it's poly...and i assumed it would transfer more vibration, but damn.

i put the shift kit in @ 45k (had the car for a week). i inspected the stock mount at that time, and it was perfect. i had to drop the crossmember and pry the tranny over during part of the shift kit installation, but anyway..

now the stock mount has very noticable tears along where the rubber itself meets the metal bracket, near the bolt holes. after changing mounts i have no more clunking with light throttle gear shifts, but all of the plastic in the interior (console..) squeaks now like a mfer. the car used to be SO quiet and smooth inside

i won't put the stock mount back in as it took literally 3 passes with a hard launch and hook between 1-2 to tear the old one up, car isn't daily driven, and after i do my headers/true dual setup, i can then pass the vibration off as my exhaust

Get used to it......although, over time the vibration seems to have lessened to a degree <that, or maybe I've gotten used to it, lol!>

Yep what they said.... I think if you put a stocker back in you will be like what the heck happened to the torque. My friend did the same thing said to much vibration blah blah blah and then got a stocker put it in, took it on a test drive came back and put the poly back in.

Good luck

Same here! It does seem to lessen and I have gotten used to it. I wont go back it really makes the car feel more solid.

I had a poly mount and couldn't stand the vibration so I put a stock mount back on. Because of the power the stock mount was ripping. I bought the BMR crossmember that relocates the torque arm from the trans. to the crossmember. This helped allieviate the upward pressure on the trans. mount. I also modified the torque arm mount to accept the stock rubber mount. You can keep the stock mount intact if you do this and the car will stay civilized feeling.

Grind the two rubber bumps off the mount, and install it without the preload plate. It dosn't eliminate the vibration, but it sure does help a lot.

That's why they use rubber mounts/bushings from the factory.

My '97 has the stiff bushings from the trans, t/a, control arms, and panhard rod too. It give a "race car" feel, lol. And it makes the car just generall louder. Anything you got going on in the drivetrain you will now hear.

I could see how the metal plate would be the culprit but...it has to be there for a reason?

Vibration with a poly mount is normal due to the harder material. I noticed on my car it took a good 1k miles or so to "break in". Seems a little less now but will never go away completely. Necessary evil.

Ive had mine on for 2 yrs with no problems whatsoever. Before that I went through 2 stock mounts.
Just make sure and loctite the bolts, I had it back out once and thought I had another broken mount.

Yep, have the same vibes from the Poly trans mount. No difference after putting in poly motor mounts. I took the plate out, didnt grind the two nubs though, no need to really. Yes its safe. And yes, it does seem to relax some after a few thousand miles. GL,
