How long will 4L60E hold up??
I have a 2002 Trans Am I am building for drag race only. Wanted to know how the 4L60's are holding up, and how big a stall converter any of you is using.
I am keeping the engine stock for now. I am adding Qtp long tubes to X pipe billet mufflers, have a SLP cold air kit with home made ram air, HP Tune on a dyno this week. Put on sfc, tq arm, lca.
Thanks for any in put.

I have the Race 4L60E from Cahallperformancetransmissions.com with over 6k miles, many low low 12 second passes, a few 11 second passes, 1.5 / 1.6 60's (3200 stall), spraying through the shifts. Still feels the same as the day I installed it.....no complaints here!

My stock 4L60E went up after 1 year with a 3000 rpm stall. 8000 miles with Many mid 12's passes. It held up pretty good for 2 years when i was a stock 13's street car with lid and catback.
I ordered a Fuddle Racing 3600 rpm stall and I got my tranny rebuild.

won't hold long unless you have a very lightweight car. Sure some people have been lucky.
If you are planning a drag car buildup.. think about where you want the car to run down the road, and plan for that. You will save yourself alot of $ in the long run, might cost more upfront, but well worth it.

Thanks again for all the replys. I do plan on a TH400, just wanted some idea how long before I would need it. 12 bolt will go in the sametime as the 400.

Mine lasted about a year, and 10K miles after i installed the 3500. The Trans had 80K miles at the time of the install, and i think with that many miles i should have kept TQ management. With the high STR and milage, it took out my 3-4 clutch pack. Would i have done it again... hell yea

I've got 101K on my stock tranny backing up a mild 382 stroker (w/ a stock torqu converter). About three mos ago it started hanging up on my 2-3 shift under WOT and it keeps tapping the rev limiter. I'm waiting for it to grenade itself so I've been driving pretty calmly lately.

My first trans only lasted about 25k miles, the 2nd one has ~65k on it now...tons of mid 11 second nitrous passes and a lot of street use, and it's perfectly fine. It's never been on a slick, though. I did break a couple rearend gears and tear a driveshaft in half, but I have no clue how this trans has held up for this long.
