[QUOTE=8a8mfh]I weighed three converters, drained. Stock 4L80E is 64, stock 4L60E is 46, TCI SF for a 4L60E is 30 pounds.

QUOTE]

I weighed my 4L80E 9.5" 5 disc Vig and it was 36lbs with some fluid in it.

I run mine with no bottom cover. It gives better cooling for the converter. The biggest thing I noticed when going 60 to 80 was the first gear ratio. I don't notice any handling differences between the two.

I just picked up a '99 core, it has a top bolt, never knew that. I also have a '98 trans in my silverado that has no top bolt.
So I guess you can bolt one up using all eight bolts.

HAndling differences? Do you mean how they hold the power thrown at it.

Also, that first gear in the 4l80e, its a bit longer right, how did that change your driving....

I think he was talking about he cars handling... it was mentioned in an earlier thread.

Yes, the 4L80E has the 2.48 first gear in it so it doesn't seem to hit the tires as hard in first gear. You can get the 2.75 first gear put in if you want though...

I weighed my 4l80e without the converter and it weighed 178 I believe. I'm not sure if this will help save anyone some money, but I modified my stock 6 speed crossmember to work with the 80e, but it took a lot of cutting and welding to get it perfect. I'm still looking into the tranny cooler lines, because I can't figure out how to get them connected to the lines running up front. I wish they didn't have that o-ring on them so I could just run a normal pipe thread fitting out of the tranny!

I meant that the cars cornering and handling doesn't feel any different. The 2.48 first gear makes the car less responsive out of the hole. It does have much crisper shifts than the 60e.

Is the 4l80e swap just for LS1 or LT1 too?

what you need is to have someone edit your file...not in hptuners as it doesnt go deep enought into the calibration. I got Ken at hptuners to do mine...once thats done, you edit your stuff just like a 4l60e file...you wont know the difference.

Okay I think I understand what you are saying. It will work with HPTuners. I just dont want to spend another $650 on the TCI controller if I can get the HPTuners to work.

Your shift points will be different though. Also the pressures too? We are in the middle of doing mine. Candle want to send your file to compare?

I know this is old but for reference purposes there is a cooler line kit from Sonnax that allows you to use pipe thread fittings on a 4L80E with snap in cooler lines.

So, all i would need to do is send out my HPtuners tuning software or my pcm, to ken at hptuners and he will be able to do the swap? How much?

I guess i would also need to computer harness as well for the 4l80e swap.......

trhe fourth gear or o/d gear in the 4l80e is larger than the 60e/65e, right? Therefore, we will be running higher RPM'z at the same speed with the same rear gear.

What gear do you guys recommend i could run with this trans with a 3400 4l80e converter?
