Default solenoid probs

My LT1 shift solenoids have just went out... I think. From what I understand it is the 1-2, and 3-4 shift solenoids, and they are only $22.69 a piece from the dealer.

It's like the car has no 1st or 4th gear. It stays in 3rd even going 10mph at WOT.. If I manually shift it will go into 2nd but that's the only way how. It is only throwing one code but no SES light.. I should be getting the solenoids replaced this week sometime and we will see how it works out.

Does this sound like soleniods or REBUILD time??

Sounds like your transmission is in limp mode. Either a shift solenoid or a wiring problem.

Even if the shift solenoids are out shouldn't you be able to manually shift it to 1st 2nd and 3rd? I thought that's what the ATSG said.

did you put a converter in? If so you could need programming.. Dont know too much about the lt1's but in the ls1's 4l60e if you put a high stall converter in you can throw a code p0757 which will lock you out of gears. Let me ask you this, if you shut the car off for a min, then turn it on and drive the car do you get all the gears.. That would be an indicator that you just need programming.. From time to time the solenoids just stop working, break, or get clogged with junk preventing gear changes.. If thats the case they you just need to istall new ones, cheap as hell and all you have to do is drop the pan...

I have no aftermarket convertor. What also happened was that my car got low on gas and it seemed clogged. I believe I sucked in dirt from the bottom of the tank.

When that happened I put on a new fuel filter and ran injector cleaner, but the car still has the problem. I am hoping that replacing the solenoids works.

I'm running into the same issue with mine after my Vig 3600 install. You said tuning issue? Sometimes it goes into and stays in 3rd and if I manually put it into 1st or 2nd, it only goes to 2nd, not first. P-R-N are all normal. If I stop and let it sit for five minutes, its back to normal. It seems to do it more often if I try to get on it a little harder than normal driving.

solenoid is bad if its a solenoid circuit code and a valve or fluid leak if its a solenoid performance code.

looking at the range referance chart its the 1-2 shift solenoid thats causing this problem its stuck in the off position. most likely a circuit code which means it will be a solenoid most likely all the solenoids in the tranny share the same power source so you know thats good or you'd have many codes.

in the off position the solenoid exhausts fluid so if its a performance code then the valve in the valve body is stuck in the off position or you have a fluid leak at the solenoid most likely.

by the way what happens in reverse? the reason i ask is both solenoid are suppose to be on in reverse however in 3rd they are both turned off. the difference between 2nd and third is that the 2-3 solenoid is on in 2nd and off in 3rd. I do have a note at the bottom of my range reference chart that says

1-2 and 2-3 shift solenoid operation and the shift valve positioning in p,r,n ranges are a function of the input to the solenois from the vss. under normal operation conditions the solenoids are on in p,r,n.

P0757 - 2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance - No Third or Fourth Gear (SES) (Old) (History) (Current) (Immature)

That's mine. How do I do the solenoid swap? Any writeups?

yours is the 2-3 solenoid stuck in the on position a good chance that its a valve being stuck. being a solenoid shift valve performance code you should check the o-ring around the solenoid and make shure that the valve moves freely.
