I know Raugh has had good luck with the Yank 4L60e, so has Patrick G. I have a PMAC 4l60e. Its got many passes on it, from my h/c setup, and has several low 10sec passes on it from my stroker, and still holding.

What does FLP charge for a Level IV tranny?

More and more hard parts are now available. Just found out there is steel input drum and shaft available now as well as a sungear shell in steel. Some guy in Colorado is making it. That's all I know. Just these parts will cost you 800 - 1000 dollars more for your buildup but be able to hold up to 850 rwhp. If I break mine will get these next time.

Think FLP said $2195 for the LVL 4 but from what they tell me its worth the difference from the LVL 3, as the 4 does not use the PCM for shifting.

They say the 3 is good to about 400hp and the 4 to around 500hp.

My plan is to get the 4 within the next few weeks so I guess I shall see.

Toxic, I have the Pro Yank with a SY3500 and I have had no problems with either of them. I use Type F fluid as per Raughammer, and did a nice easy break-in on it (about 450-500 miles). Changed fluid and filter and then beat the hell out of it. I have had nothing but excellent customer service and help from Mike Senia and would recommend them to anyone. I dont regret my decision.

Well I just found a guy around here that specializes in race prep 4L60E's and 700R4's.
For people around here have you heard of "Michael's All Transmissions" it is by hobby airport.

I talked with Mike Senia and if I don't like what this guy near me tells me I will go with the Yank. Mike even told me to go see what this guy can do and call me back. Great service!!!

And I didnt py 2200 for it

Yank Pro Tranny works like a champ!

It's got about 12,000 street / strip miles on it (about 75 passes, most 1.5 60fts )

I believe the street stuff is much worst on these things than anything.

Here are my thoughts, I have one of FLP's first LS1 4L60E Level IV's in my car.

My trans was redone in 2000 by FLP. It worked great. The plan was always to bring it back after a year and open it up for a inspection. I got a few hundred bux off when I first bought it, but it was not free or anything.

Now, when the car was up at ARE for the 422ci upgrade, they pulled the drivetrain out and went thru the tranny. I had no tranny problems, but I subsequently did. Not to bore you folks to tears, but the converter got damaged during the reinstall and damaged the tranny.

I had FLP redo the tranny late last fall.

I have 30 dyno pulls on it.
I have been only driving on ET Streets Since October.
Car has 60 fted a best of 1.51 and many mid 1.5's.
I am a very abusive driver.
I have had the car up to 150mph a few times.
I have about 50 passes on this one.

I highly reccomend the FLP tranny because it does work.

I always monitor heat. I think that's why mine lasts.

The PCM does in fact shift my tranny, even though I have the vacuum modulator. You cannot shift any pcm-governed tranny sooner than the programmed shift points at WOT. But you can wind out the shifts and manually shift but it's hit or miss.

Let's all compare notes when we all have 100 passes on our transmissions.

My first FLP build had in fact about 300 passes on it.

I know that Chuck incorporated some new ideas in my tranny when it was redone back in early October. I retained the billet servo from ARE even though Chuck warned that I would not like the hard downshifts when slowing for stoplights. Chuck and I also argued about Kevlar vs OEM bands and never agreed to a agree. But then again I go with his design, because from what I have seen many aftermarket trannies only hold up for like 20-30 passes.

Another trick with mine, is that I never get on it until I am at operating temp.

I also will let 2nd wind out manually during cold start driving, kind of like how the truck's wind out 2nd gear when cold (pcm program).

I also have a THREE rule. I will never do more than three passes in a row. The heat start out at 185F with my car and goes up to 225F by the 3rd pass. Everything I have read says that 250F+ is the kill zone for trannies.

Problem area for our trannies is the 3-4 clutches.

I am getting it race prepped here for up to 600hp. Turn key is $1400w/1 year warranty 12,000 miles. He has a 500+ HP car running his rebuild for 2 years now. So my cooler and converter will be in this one from day one.

Pro Stock John: Good advice. Do you have a tranny cooler? Why or why not? Also, did you delete torque management?

Thanks,
-Jim

I also really like FLP's level IV, and I will be upgrading to one sometime this year. FLP's customer service is top-notch, and Chuck's level IV is a proven performer. Now that I'm running a 4400 stall, I won't make more than two passes in a row. The high stall builds a LOT of heat, and as noted above, heat will kill a trans pretty quick. I'm running a 24,000 GVW cooler, FWIW.

I am running a B&M 19,000 GVW cooler mounted on top of my radiator (I have no AC condenser).

Again, let's see how all the aftermarket trannies do after 100 runs or so.

I need to correct my post, I have FLP's first LS1 4L60E.

Keep in mind that a rebuilt HP tranny is more than just slapping in new parts. Chuck at FLP has spent a lot of time looking at tolerances and problem areas for these trannies.

A 1994 Z28 that he did about three years ago has gone three years without tranny problems even when the car was being sprayed with a 200 shot. That 94Z was not on slicks but was abused quite a bit.

My 98 A4 went a couple years on a 200 shot with slicks, with the stock tranny. 4L60Es are very hit and miss.

I'll post my impressions of the Level IV once it gets in the car. I wish that damn thing would get here.

I also understand that ARE has a guy doing their trannies, and they are holding up to multiple 9 second passes. Anybody have one of these installed?
