shift kits?

shift kits? what does a shift kit REALLY do? i know it makes your car shift quicker and more firm, but is it good for your tranny to shift faster? it doesnt seem like this would increase your et any.. my car shifts plenty fast as it is.
It depends. The ones that simply modify your line pressure are a waste of time. The ones that physically change parts inside the transmission to make it function better are a whole different game.

There are changes done with increased accumulation along with more feed oil to the clutch packs for added holding power. Also if the trans is apart the trans go kit comes with added release springs for the input drum. This insures that the clutches release when their supposed to or release faster. Also these springs aid to keep clutches from coming on prematurely. It corrects lock up issues along with added lube or cooler flow pressure. The kit also comes with shims for adjusting the 2-4 band. IMO it is fixing alot of issues.

A shift kit that changes internals is usually better on a tranny because a stock tranny is set to shift smooth which causes more clutch plate wear, and with a shift kit it shifts quicker so there is less clutch slippage.
