Default Converter Break In

I'll have my converter (SS3600) installed by this weekend and I keep hearing about breaking the converter in. What kind of driving will break it in best (city/highway)? How many miles should I take it easy?

there's a break-in procedure? hmm..

my break-in consisted of letting the car get warm, putting ~ 2 miles of easy driving on it. ...then 3 consecutive sets of posi-marks approximately 50' long. WOT from a dead stop...hrm.

after 10k it seems to be holding up well.

I followed Yank's guide. I figured they knew what they were talking about, as they built the converter. I didn't want to challenge the dollars spent for the converter (Yank SS3200) and install....better to hold myself in check for a couple of hundred miles. It wasn't easy though! When you buy a new car, you don't go right out and beat the crap out of it. Part of that break-in process is for the converter. What Yank said made sense, to me, anyway.

I broke mine in as soon as I pulled out of the driveway. I didn't even know you had to break them in.

We got the converter installed a lot sooner than I thought : )

I took it for a test drive tonight. All I can say is WOW! The car really doesn't drive much different than stock. If you didn't tell me it had a stall in it, I wouldn't know. The car still pulled a little in drive but very little. Stop and go traffic would be nothing. The converter locked up like stock. I don't have a tune in the car but I never got a SES light and I drove it about 50 miles. The converter locked up a hair under 40mph. I still took it easy on it and didn't do any WOT blasts. Incase I didn't say it. I have 3.23 gears.

I tried to listen for any shutter or clunking noises but I didn't hear a thing. No vibration at all. I remember reading about people saying the lock up was pretty hard but mine is like stock. Silky smooth. So far this converter is a lot tighter than I thought it would be. Considering this is my first converter, it's pretty tame. I'd like to try a SS4000 now : ) I can't wait to get a couple more break in miles so I can beat on it some.

The lockup won't be any different unless you have the modified Trans-Go kit (like me).

I like being able to sit at certain lights on a slight incline without the brakes. The car will hold itself in place and on a hill, it will actually roll backwards slowly.

I'm still surprised how close to stock this converter is. I kind of wish I tried the SS4000

I started with a 3500, went with a 4000, and now I'm at 4400. I'd skip that middle step if I were you

My break-in consisted of about 150 ft worth of rubber laid in two s-shaped lines, followed by a "Hell YEAH!"

Nothing's broken yet.

I ended up driving it to work today since it involved some city "bumper to bumper" driving. It drove great. I wish I did this sooner!
