Default whats the best way to adapt a TH400 ?

looking at fitting a t400 behind my LS1 , I know Yank has a block adapter available ( for use with their custom converter) , is there any others ? Also Yank tell me that the T400 can bolt straight up to the LS1 ( no block spacer needed) and I can use a standard T400 converter , with a new flywheel and crank spacer they have available . Whats the best way to do it ? its cheaper to just bolt it up and use a T400 converter with their new flywheel , is this an OK setup ? Mike said it isnt as strong setup but didnt get into details .

Yank is the most expensive way to do it..get a local, well known trans shop to build you a race prepped TH400 and buy a good TH400 converter and flywheel and all the other little goodies and it basically bolts in...

Look for Macgyvers post a few down....he did a whole write up on it...

By the way, if you are looking for a converter for it, I would be more than happy to sell you mine..

I just re-read MacGuyvers post and didn't see anything mentioned about a new flywheel? Is this also a must?

From what I've heard the stock flexplate has knock outs that match up with a th400 converter. I can't personally gurantee this to be true but this is my impression on the swap

Auto's use flexplates, M6's use flywheels

You have to get a standard auto flexplate from GM..

BIGBOS , thanks for the offer on your converter but I allready have a manual t400 and 4000 converter from an older car waiting to go in
You used a stock GM flexplate , which one ? Im going from a 4l60e to the t400 , so which flexplate do I use , the stock Ls1 A4 flexplate or a stock T400 flexplate from an older t400 car ? Yank told me I need their special flexplate and adapter for the crank , for it to work with a t400 converter .

I believe mine is the standard A4 GM one...redrilled to fit the TH400 converter...and the only converter adjustment I had to make was a 1/4" crank pilot extension...

Now I get it , the crank spacer Yank is telling me about is a crank pilot extension , and the flexplate needs to be drilled to suit the t400 'verter .

I mean they did make them before? IF you get the holes off just a bit, you will have alignment and balancing problems.

Yea there is one, but its lots of $ compared to the stock one...

I think they go for like 600-800 bucks..
