...how is this done, and why aren't the other companies doing this?

Fuddle will build one for you on request. Any converter manufacturer will if you specifically ask for it. The only reason I can think of why its not actively promoted is that from my observations and research the 21 blade stator does not hit as hard as the 18 blade at the launch. The 21 blade, however, is better at the very top end for rated stall RPM. This is from actual real world track logs and discussions with converter builders.
Ever heard quotes from owners Vigs and Fuddles hit harder than Yanks?
21 blade stator is from the GM Minivan. Its NOT a unique design exclusive to any one company, though they may market its use as being exclusive in the industry.

It's not offered through any other company. Sure with extra $$$ they can build one for you but I've never seen anyone advertise one. Generally I've always heard Yanks hit the hardest BTW. I'm a Vig guy FWIW.

Horses for courses. Seek and you will find the truth. Compare apples to apples, not oranges.

Also on your comment about warranty. Name one case where the user wasn't doing something they weren't supposed to and got denied! You can't.

You might want to do some research. Graphs comparing Yank to other brands are all over the web! It proves it. The products have been tested on a converter dyno by a third party (GM). Yank was the only manufacturer with guts enough to prove it!
.
.
Seems like most people when switching from one converter to a Yank of equal stall speed will dyno a little more (or lose less).
