Default st3500... looose

Just got my st3500 put in. it is a little looser than i thought it would be. since i just got it havent romped on it yet put even half throttle it has to be over 3000 to move with any athourit. 2000 gets it barely moving. even the tranny guy said it is quite loose. he has put in many of these and said i happened to get one of the looser ones but not the loosest yet. he said the loosest he thought it wasnt in gear because at 3000 it didnt go anywhere and took about 3500 to get it to move. He also said yank makes a great product and they are quality built just not very consistent. he has had 3500 stalls take of like a stock converter (until you nail it) and then as high as 3500.

what gears do you have?

I had one with 3.23s and I used 2200 - 2600 rpm in normal driving around town, 1800 - 2000 in heavy traffic, and 2900 - 3000 to leave the average car in the dust coming off a red light.

I have 3.23 mine is about the same as yours if you add 500 - 600 rpm to your numbers...

Give it some time and see if you adjust. A loud exhaust makes it seem worse.

Do you have Edit? raising part throttle shift points really helps tighten it up.

I have a ST3200 and mine was real loose. I think mostly because my idle was way off. On the dyno it idled in drive from 450-500 and often searching to find the idle. Raised the idle to about 650 and now feels tighter like almost stock.
Try the idle relearn if that doesn't work maybe ls1 edit.
Hope this helps.

You need to recheck your tranny fluid level after driving the car 50-100 miles. Mine needed more fluid. If your converter is slipping too much b/c your fluid is low that isn't good.

No way should you be spinning 500 more RPM at the same throttle input and gear ratio. With 2.73 - maybe but not with 3.23.

Sounds about like my 2.73/ST3500 combo.

I checked the fluid and it is full actually a touch above full. The converter is just that loose. I got on it hard off the line for the first time today. this little hondah pulled up next to me revving with its fart pipe. light turned green and i floored it for half of first gear. tires spun but i had 4 lengths on him before he could get off the line. pretty funny actually... i must admit this is a hell of a converter off the line.

Mobius,

I had very much the same experiences that you are having when I had an ST3500 in my car. You're right, it is just that loose of a converter.

I was kinda shocked I am getting use to it, but i everyone on the board even yank said part throttle will be around 2000-2500 and it is really closer to 3000-3500. if you give it like 1/2 throtle or more it tightens up. but anyways it deffinetely is fun when you are on it... <img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" />
