Talking all A4 with 4:10's or 3:73's come inside!!!!!!!!

im thinking about 3:73 or 4:10. what im leaning to is the 4:10's unless anyone changes my mind! anyone with expirence with these gears? oh and my street tires are 26" tall. im not worried about gas or high rpm on the highway. i just want this to be a NASTY street car!

I think 4.10 would be too much. I love my 3.73s - those aren't too bad on the highway, but I think 4.10 would be. Plus you will run out of top speed in 3rd quicker (my 3.73s go to 13x mph range)

And you should get a converter if you haven't. I went with a 4000 2.4 to make up for not having 4.10 - it screams out of the hole.

If you do not care about gas mileage or cruising RPMs, then 4.10s are the way to go. It will be a killer from a stop and low rolls ... especially with a 3500+ converter. 3.73s are for fuel mileage conscience persons, I have 3.73s. If it was not my daily, I would have gone 4.10s. Those are great gears for 1/8 mile racing as well.

Damn I'm stuck on what to do too. I have a TRex, 4400 stall and daily drive my car. I take the HW to school but its only 55mph for 15 miles. The rest of my driving is in my small town (30k population, 10 miles long). If I go any farther I make my gf drive me in her VW.

Could people post up what the RPMs are with 3.73s AND 4.10s, respectively, at 50, 60, 70, and 80mph?

If the 4.10s are only good to 126 mph, what ET capability is that? I plan on going with a set of ETP heads in the future and don't want to be held back by my gear. Are 4.10s the only way to go?

good post, anyone think a 3.73 is a good match with a 4l80e? It has taller gears and fourth is actually shorter than the 4l60e.

Im also trying to find a nice stall for it, thinking of a yank but haven't seen one in the 3600-4000 range with a 2.4ish str. Any ideas/comments?

Off topic, but you think thats a small town, my high school has about 200 kids in it, 8-12th grade, hahah. Town is about 1-2 miles long, nearest town is around 10 miles, but only about 500 kids in that high school.

And I'd go with the 3.73s from what I've heard so far..

4.10's are what I have in my A4 and I wouldn't have it any other way, but you better have some sticky tires because they will spin a lot worse than you would think with these gears.

4.10's all the way. Wouldn't change them for anything. Traction was there before the stall converter went it. I had to learn to ease into it just right at the track after the converter. I pull 1.70's most of the time on DR's now. Great gear for 1/8 mile. Just my .02

i have a 3600 stall with a 1.8 str and 3.23's right now, im thinking about putting some 3.73's to help make it feel tighter and help more with acceleration, but there are a lot of people on here that have medium to large stalls and still have factory gears, whats the deal? is it better to have lower gears with a stall or taller gears ( numerically lower )

I got T-rex and 4400 stall 2.5 STR with 4.10 daily driven.
60-65mph = 2,000 rpm.

Dude I say 4.10s...
