I went with an Earls cooler. It measured 7"H x 13"W x 2"D. Should be plenty to keep my TH400 cool.

B&M also makes an 11x11x1.5 cooler that should be fine as well and is much cheaper to purchase than the Earls.

i'm looking at the B&M 70297, it appears to be bigger than the B&M most people get plus it has a fan with a thermostat set at 175*F.

it is 13" x 9" x 3.5" with a 9.5" fan. its about $200 though from places i have seen...

Their 24,000 GVW unit!

The 3.5" thick one will be tough to make fit if you have an AC condenser.

I have an idea. Go to a junk yard and get an import's AC condensor.

I didn't say it wouldn't fit, just that it would be a tight fit with a condensor on there. You have a picture of yours installed? I measured 4" of clearance from radiator to the top frame area without the condensor. A 9" tall cooler will fit under that frame, but it would be tight and looks as if it would restrict air flow to your air filter being so thick. Not knocking it, just thought I would throw out my opinion on a real thick cooler mounted to the rediator.

Yes, thats a pretty good cooler! I used custom -6 AN lines from the tranny to the cooler, but that cost me about the same as the cooler did and my cooler was $140.

Here is the descriptions of all the universal coolers from B&M:

70266 - SuperCooler rated at 20,500 BTU 11"x8"x1-1/2" (Racing model doesn't include installation components and has female 1/2 NPT fittings). Can also be used for all fluid cooling needs.
70273 - SuperCooler rated at 15,000 BTU 11"x5-3/4"x1-1/2" (Racing model doesn't include installation components and has female 1/2 NPT fittings). Can also be used for all fluid cooling needs.
70274 - SuperCooler rated at 29,200 BTU 11"x11"x1-1/2" (Racing model doesn't include installation components and has female 1/2 NPT fittings). Can also be used for all fluid cooling needs.

Sounds like you have some money in the car so I would go with the AN fittings and braided lines, its good insurance and you won,t have any annoying leaks.
I run the B&M Hi Tek cooler with braided lines and AN fittings and so far love the setup.
Trans temps rarely get over 150, and 170 is the highest I have seen so far. And thats playin with it in the heat of the day.

I picked up a flex a lite cooler from summit, it's the 7 by 20 by 3/4... or whatever the bigger one is that has teh AN fittings on it. I also got a tranny temp guage to go no my th400 too.. and if I see it getting too hot, I'm sticking a fan on teh cooler next. But, I suspect that it will be plenty big even with some street driving.

This is the one that I got from summit, I doubt a fan would be needed with it, but could easily be added if need be. I will be putting it where my a/c condenser used to be, seeing as that is going away when the motor/tranny swap is done:

The 24,000 GVW is the same as the 15,000 BTU unit.

If you place the Cooler on the trans in a good spot, the radiator fans pull plenty of air in, especially if your AC condensor is removed. I have my fans come on accordingly to my 160* T-stat.

I used to run the 15,000 BTU unit when I had the 4l60E in the car and never went above 180* except when at the track doing WOT runs then maybe it would creep up to 190*.

The trans get hotter under load (WOT runs, pulling trailers, etc) more so than stop and go traffic.

I have a TH400 with trans brake now and when activating the T-brake the trans runs much hotter so I went with a bit bigger and better cooler this time around.
