Worth going from Y3000 vs. ST 3500??
I have a Y3000 in the LT1. How much of a performance increase (in terms of reduced ET and increased MPH assuming traction) would there be in going up to the ST3500? Also, would the ST3500 offer a noticable improvement from a roll, say from like 50-100? Thanks in advance

You'll probably see .1 - .2 gain at the track and some improvement from a roll. The more you have mod'ed the motor for power in the upper midrange and top end, the more the benefit will be.
You will go MUCH faster from a roll. You will gain about 600-700 rpms in shift extension. That's gonna make the whole thing worth it in my opinion.

Believe it or not, I changed out my YANK 3000 for an ST3500 and went from a best of 12.34 with a 1.73 60ft to a 11.93 with a 1.64 60ft.
But that's in an LS1 <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

Did you change anything else except the converter? Were the track and weather similar?
Thanks,

Actually I did change something. I forgot to mention that with the 3500 I could no longer hook with Nitto's so I went to ET Streets.
The weather was actually cooler when I hit my 12.34 which was at Cecil, I think it was around 50 deg.
When I hit the 11.93 it was more like 70+

Just got to thinking, though, if you were full-on hooking with the Nittos and the Y3000 then the tire change may not have been responsible for ANY of the improvement. If the tires were the same diameter (i.e. not changing effective gear ratio) and you were not spinning the Nittos you would have run the same 12.34 with the ET Streets and Y3000. In this case the tires would not have make you any quicker they would have just allowed you to put the new-found ST3500 torque to the ground.
Were you hooking at full throttle with the Nittos and the Y3000?
Anyone tried the Y3000 to SY3500 swap on a LS1?
Thanks for the info,
Steve

I went from a Yank3200 to a ST3800 in my old car and it was well worth the upgrade.
The car was an absolute animal from a roll. It held real close to 5000rpm on the upshifts with the 3800 compared to 4200rpm with the Y3200. It had headers and a few bolt ons. It was also a LS1.
This was about as loose a converter as I could stand on a daily basis at the time but, I sit in a lot of stop and go traffic so a loose converter can get old quickly....until you get some open road and stomp it once or twice. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
