Yank converters
I always though that Yank makes the converter to stall where you want it on your car. Custom made. I guess I was wrong. I have a 3.8 V6 and from what I heard from someone that called Mike is this. They use the same LS1 converter when selling it for a V6. It will obviously stall 300-400RPM lower due to less torque. This makes it harder to pick the right one.
Let's say I get a TP4000. Now it's a TP3600 on my car. Since a thing like this doesn't exist and noone has it how will I know how it performs? Or let's say I want a ST to stall at 4000 on mine. So now I'll need a ST4400. Again, nothing like this exists.
How will a TP do with stalls lower then 4000? Will it still be better then a ST of the same stall?
TP3600 vs ST3600 and TP4000 vs ST4000. My main concern is ETs. And I'm mainly torn between the TP and ST series.

yeah id love to know also.. i called them and he said that he would just build the LS1 converter and it would stall a few hundred RPM's lower...
i was ok with that i just thought they could custom build. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
good luck gettin ahold of them..i called for 2 days to order and left 2 messages and never got a return phone call and i made it very evident i wanted to order..... maybe i will call and see if they can give me the same price as the converter was when i tried to order the first 100 times last week <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I'll just talk to a local dealer when I order mine. I have no intention of dealing with Yank without a middle man. Once I get my questions answered I'll be good to go. I have not ruled out PI.
Be carefull about dealing with a "middle man". They're not the ones actually building the converter for you. Mike at Yank really will custom make the converter to your exact specifications, V-6 or V-12. Don't expect a dealer to know exactly what combination of pump/turbine/stator/clearance/clutch to put in your particular application to make it perform like you want it. If you take the shortcut, don't blame Yank if it's not what you're looking for.

By the way, the V-6 converter is entirely different than the LS1 converter. The two won't bolt up so get that crazy idea out of your head. Each are custom made per application.

Mike himself said that he does NOT make custom converters for V6. I didn't say it, he did. So either him or you are misinformed.
He uses the LS1 ones. Obviously not the same size, as I know the transmissions and engines are different.
About the "middle" man. I would obviously make it VERY CLEAR about my application. I don't deal with bad customer service and don't play the waiting game.
Yeah I know every V6 owner knows nothing about cars.

anyways i think i might be the one that Dom was talkin about. I called Yank last week and wanted to get a ST3500 made for my car..V6 ..so it wouls stall at 3500. he told me that i had to buy the 3800 if i wanted it to stall around 3500 in my car..to me that seems stupid... if every other company can build you a custom converter why couldnt they?
and yeah mike told me the converters are the same if you get a 9.5 inch for the LS1 thge only differnece is rthe inlet shaft ......
as i said before good luck with yank..they are impossible to get a hold off.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

im betting the stall difference would be huge also...maybe not the 800 like magnus says but id bet at least 600... it would have about 210 PDS of TQ against the converter rather than the 320 or so of the average LS1...
seems a little weird that the best converter maker cant make a custom converter for a v6 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
and them returning phone calls would be nice also.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

I odered a 2500 Yank converter and they sold me a bad converter and then didn't want to give me my money back.Futhermore, I ordered it from SLP Performance out of New Jersey. I have a stock 99Z A4 and the brake stall was only 1650. That was a waste of time and money. They told me it would stall at 2400. When I buy another converter I'll by a Vigilante or a TCI. The converter Yank sold me ws out of balance.
