TH350 or 4L80E swap
Been thinkin bout puttin a turbo 350 in my 98 Camaro cause im bout to be makin over 500 horses at the wheels and i havent seen anyone thats had a 4L60E that lasted any time. The only thing is I would like to keep my overdrive and go with a 4L80E the only problem is the cost. I have checked it out and the turbo 350 swap would be from 1500 to about 2000 bucks. The 4L80E swap will be well over 3grand just wonderin what you guys think. Any opinions or experiences would be helpful.

It's all about your pockets. You could have 100 people choose the 4l80e and 1 choose the 3 speed but it wont mean anything if you cant afford it. I wish I could afford a 4l80e setup but I cant justify the cost. I dont know what the heck Im going to do anymore.

Honda Hunter said it best, if you got the cash then do a 4L80E.
I got a great deal on a complete TH400 swap that has worked out perfect for me, but I also think I would be happy with a full manual 4L80.
Just hard to swallow the price and the weight of the OD tranny.

My votes for the 4l80e. I love mine. I dont have 3g's tied up in mine. I think its right around $2400 for everything. Most of the 4l60e's are around that cost alone. I know my rossler was close. I bought my trans used (car-part.com) Then bought a rebuild kit and had it built locally. Got the converter and crossmember from yank, dipstick tube from summit and wiring harness adapters from speartech. Heres a breakdown:
Trans- $500
Rebuild kit- $160
Build cost- $200
Converter & Crossmember - $1145
Dipstick/tube- $70
Wiring adapters- $160
Dust cover- $60
Yoke- $100
HPtuners new OS- Free
I then sold my 4l60e stuff on here to help with the cost, sold the converter and trans for $750. So really I was only out $1600 or so.

4L80, I did it for about $1000. $625 of that was the Vigilante Converter. Who wouldnt want a TH400 with overdrive! Trans cost me $100 and is going strong.

Well if you are driving the car alot get a 4L80 and if you just race it go for a TH350 or TH400. The 4L80 will rob alot of power and is added unwanted weight. I just did a M6 to a TH350 and am putting down maybe 750 to the wheels. A TH350 can handle it with no problems as long as it is built right. I paid just under 1500 dollars for everything to do the swap and build the trans and sold my old M6 set-up for alot more.
