Default Strange ticking coming from my new tranny.

I can't figure it out. I have a brand new PBA tranny. It's a 4L60E, fuddle converter.

We went by the proper procedure to fill the tranny with fluid, 1 qt in the converter, 5 in the pan, feed it 3-4 quarts once the engine is running, etc etc, it has plenty of fluid. The big problem is, when I put it in D, 1, 2, or 3. It makes a very noticable clicking noise, almost like a baseball card in a bike spoke noise. I check all of the drive train and it isn't hitting anything. Here's the kicker, when I put it in reverse, and let the tires spin freely, it doesn't make the noise. It is noticably coming from the transmission, and I have no idea what it is. Ideas?

Make sure that you don't have a tc bolt that is loose or dust cover that could be possiably be rubbing the flywheel. You could also have a bad flywheel. Good luck to you and let us know what you find. Vince.

I'll pull the dust cover and see. Can you tell me why it would do it in the foreward gears and not reverse?

Also, how can you tell the fly wheel is bad?

The flex plate I believe will move in opposite directions depending on forward or reverse. It was some thing to check and double check the ideas I through out as well.

Probably a different issue, but mine started doing that after the synthetic oil change almost a year ago...no problems have come from it but it is annoying and i'll find the source of it eventually.

Hope you figure it out.

I don't think it is. The transmission is brand new, I havn't even driven it yet. What Vince said makes the most sense of anyone I've talked to so far. If he is right, I will probably send him a christmas card or something.

The flexplate is bolted directly to the crankshaft....doesn't change directions in forward or reverse.....

Correct it doesn't change in rotation but as far as it flexing I believe it does.
