ok a friend of mine has a 99 trans am (not ws-6) his transmission automaticaly shifts him into 2nd even though he has it manually shifted in to 1st. is this normal because mine does not do that?

 

thats normal. unless you have a tran-go HD2 kit, or the trans programed to shift higher, it will protect itsself and shift. my caddy would do that.

 

It depends on the year of the car. My 2001 would hold 1st.

 

Some 4l60e will upshift when in manual low others do not , this can be fixed in one of two ways , Programing is one solution and the transgo hd2 kit is the other , The hd2 is the definate fix ,

my 2000 will not shift automatically if I put it in 1st, and I dont have a shift kit

 

As I was saying before some 4l60e transmissions factory will hold the gear forever virtually others will not and i have seen them thant will not hold past 3500 rpm , its in the programing of the ecm but im not sure why ?

my cadillac would hold 1st to 5000. but then again, it was a 94 cadillac. The caprice came witha trans go, and has a trans outta an unknown year f-body. so I will never know about that one.
